If the Panthers could trade down...

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by The Brain, Apr 21, 2011.

If you were the GM would you take Cam Newton at a lower draft position if you could?

  1. Yes. I don't want Cam Newton as a Carolina panther no matter the draft position

  2. No. At a lower draft position I think he's worth the pick.

...5-10 spots, would you have a problem with them taking Cam Newton somewhere in that range?

I would still rather pass and go for a vet to play now while Clausen and Pike learn from the bench.

Reality: only a small handful of teams would deal down for the #1 pick this year, and each of those teams would do so in an effort to, presumably, pick Newton. Hypothetically: sure. I would gladly trade with, say, DC for their 2nd rounder, and take Newton in DC's old spot. Then again, it's moot, since Cam is gone by #5, regardless of our collective opinion. Enough evaluators see him as worth the risk, and to his credit, Newton has carried himself well since the combine.

Why not, if were considering him at #1 overall and we can trade down and still get him plus a second rounder, BONUS. But like Abusive said, trade down and he'll likely be gone by 5.

Being that I could take him at the #1, I could certainly take him later.

Draft Darius 1st or trade down to get a 2nd and take Peterson or Jones/Green

I just feel that the wording on the ballot is such that I can not vote in good conscience.

The wording of the ballot is kind of a fucking disaster, isn't it.

We're not trading down! no team is dumb enough to give up those valuable picks knowing that free agency might not even happen this year.

I still wouldn't want to take Cam because I do not believe that he's a top 15 player in this draft, but he's probably a late first round talent, so it wouldn't be egregious. Really, what drives me crazy about the Panthers taking him at #1 is that we have no more picks until #65, so the team doesn't get any significant help for 2011.
