Tomorrow my little brother returns home from Afghanistan, and it got me thinking.

I know Pat Tillman didn't have HOF numbers, but I think he should be in the Hall of Fame. If a player can lose votes based on character flaws, why shouldn't they be able to get vote based on heroic action? Afterall it's called the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Stats. I can't recall another time an athlete has willingly left the game to risk and ultimately give their life in battle. If he were to make the Hall of Fame it would be refreshing to see.

    No.

A REAL football player would not have gotten shot. Unless his name had been Plaxico.

tillman was an awesome human being that did willingly risk his life. he didn't do anything heroic other than be a superlative soldier that was accidentally shot by his friend in the fog and confusion of a firefight. that doesn't merit nfl hof.

rocky bleier, but he didn't die.

Yes..you put him in. Its the Hall of Fame...not the Hall of Statistics. He is very relavant to the history and make-up of the league.

He's really not, and I'd argue against the heroism aspect as well. Staying in football and donating a large portion of his salary to a veterans fund would have been a more sensible alternative. Throwing himself into the frontline and widowing his wife was a needless sacrifice.

Regardless of your view on whether he is a "hero" or not is not the issue. He still remains relavant. And by the way...wrting a check is definetly not heroic. He took a stand for what he believed in....it had nothing to do with his death..but his beliefs. He was passionate on and off the field.

He's not relavant to the history of pro football. Don't make the HoF more or less than what it is.

Writing a check isn't bad, but some people just have to role up their sleeves and do the work. Needless sacrifice? C'mon man! Why is his a needless sacrifice, because he's rich? Is everyone elses sacrifices needed, because they don't have the luxury of donating a large portion of their salaries?
