This link is a nice summary of what folks project Carolina will do with the first pick. Over half of these have us taking Bowers.

For the life of me, I don't see how this fits. Assuming we retain Charles Johnson, we have 3-4 decent guys manning those DE positions, I just don't see how he's a fit for the team. If someone has a better idea, please enlighten me.

An elite end, or in this case a guy that project to be, is ALWAYS a fit for a team. Charles Johnson at this point it a one hit wonder, and Everette Brown hasn't exactly lit it up, so having a guy that'll put pressure on the qb, even if it means the Panthers have to swallow their pride and put Brown on the bench, to me makes total sense.

Why wouldn't a guy that projects to be an elite end fit?

Bowers is also a one-hit wonder.
I think this speaks more to the fact that most of these idiots never see the Panthers play, and are just listing the "top guy available" , as the Panthers must surely need everything if they were 2-14.

even without Johnson you could argue DT's a bigger need.

Seriously if they botch this pick, somebodies likely to hunt Hurney down and beat him senseless. The hit pretty well with Peppers at no. 2. But have really missed out on high picks.

not much to botch... not that big a gap 1-5... it's just DT is our 2nd biggest need

I'm not down with Brown not being a beast. I had high expectations for CJ early on, but it took him longer then I expected to show... still time for EB

    Fairley's still the pick... JMO

I think Fairley & Dareus are both better DT's then Bowers is a DE

because he doesn't project to be elite, only solid. for example in this draft alone, Quinn has more upside than Bowers.

I wish someone in the top 7 would have a hard on for someone and offer us a 2nd to flip spots in the 1st
