Matt Moore cramped when the heat was on, then got hurt so he couldn't work his way through it, but I still think he'd make a good starting QB. Moore is quick and accurate when his head isn't about to explode.

Clausen never had a chance. And should have never been given a chance. He wasn't ready. Clausen doesn't have the superhuman physical skills some of these athletes have coming into the league, so he had nothing physically above-average (ie. height, foot speed) to compensate for his obvious handicaps. I argue that Tony Pike and his 6'6" frame and nimble feet would have been the better rookie equipped to handle the QB duties last season.

I fully expect either Newton or Gabbert to have the same mental struggles as Pickle had, but would have some physical advantages (cannon arm, size) that would help the early transition to game speed and against defensive trickery. Adding a rookie QB at #1, no matter who it is, will not solve Carolina's problems.

I tell you, I wouldn't mind one bit if the Panthers brought back Matt Moore. I'd even be fine with signing Jake Delhomme if it were understood he'd be coming in as a backup, or short-term starter (which I believe he'd accept). I prefer Billy Volek, or Kevin Kolb (NO! to anything more than a third-rounder) or Kyle Orton. But whatever they do, the Panthers have to put someone under center who's been there/done that.

So if Carolina signs a vet (or two) and continues to develop Clausen and Pike, that leaves obvious draft needs at DT and in the secondary.

And my pick - Marcell Dareus. I think he's a Russell Maryland type defensive tackle.

    disagree.

I mean, I don't disagree that he blew last year, and shouldn't just get some free pass. But guy's not 6'. Kiper blowing him into the top 5 or not, pretty much everyone had him as very physically talented. No one ever questioned whether he had the skill.

I won't be disappointed if we dont draft newton - i will be disappointed if clausen is even in the competition for starter.

And I have no idea why you're defending the guy.

because I disagree with most of the shit you guys are putting out there, I guess.

Guy shouldn't have been out there. He won't be playing next year, and he'll have an honest chance to be evaluated.

THat is how I feel. It is like taking the cake out of the oven before it is done and throwing it away because it sucks. Then all the people who pulled it out of the oven prematurely start bitching about the cook.

Moore looked good. But that team underachieved all year until the end. They were playing well. That same Moore would start again 2 years later and look good. Then all of the sudden he sucks? What happened? THen Clausen comes in and sucks? This is why I think we need more time to evaluate him. I thought Clausen was lost, but he has talent. If I am a coach, and my players are confused on the field, it is 100% my fault. Our coaches were also confused and they didn't care about JC and next year. He was their scape goat as well. FWIW, when 2 qbs from the same team are so similar, it makes me question the system and the environment they were in. This is intersting:

Doesn`t being disappointed in April happen every year? I think even quite a few were disappointed after the Peppers pick because of the notion that he took plays off. I think I could never get more excited than I got when we first got Kerry Collins, until this year and then Luck shit on the parade.

Its easy to piss on Clausen because he was the worse thing on a bad team. No one is forcing you to defend him. No reason to think he can`t suck just because of his draft position, and what physical tools did you see that would put him better than any other choice?

I personally don't care if we pick Fairley / Dareus /Green / Peterson / Newton
(no to Bowers, we don't need a DE).

But as for this, it appears you would be happy to sit Clausen for a year, but not Newton. Is this because you feel Clausen has the better potential than Newton, or because you don't want to waste last year's # 2 pick ?
