I didn't know what to title this thread, but since we've already had a Cam Newton thread, we'll just call this Part 2.

Here it is, GAMEDAY, and we all have our opinions on Cam Newton. We all agree that he has tremendous raw athletic ability and he's put up some staggering numbers this year. However we also all know about his "cons", the questions, ranging from a possible meddling father to questions about work ethic.

Here's my question and I'd like to hear some honest replies from the loyal followers (Mags, Thelt, Abusive, etc),,,,,, understanding all the questions about using a #1 overall pick on Cam, will his performance in a game of this magnitude make a difference to you, and should it make a difference to the Panthers?

As part of the etc. bunch, I'll opine that tonight's game is next to irrelevant concerning his NFL future.

Attaching too much importance to a game like that is what led to Young and Russell being taken as high as they were.

Unless he really sucks, then go ahead and make it relevant.

Giving the coaches a month and a half to gameplan for 1 game? Not even close to realism. He will run and score and they will win. He will hoist the trophy and try his best to be humble.

Even if he plays well, Strat is right. Means nothing.

This is just my opinion, BUT I think Newton CAn help his stock, however, he's gonna be a project. I'll fully admit he's got more upside than even Luck. However he's also got more downside. He's a scary pick. That's why i've said if the Panther's could trade down a few picks I'd have no problem taking him.

I think you have to give the guy some consideration. He was good enough as a freshman at Florida to be back-up to a Heisman Trophy winner. He transferred to Binn College in Texas where he won the Junior College National Championship. In his first season at Auburn he's won his own Heisman, his team is undefeated and playing for a national championship. Maybe it's all just freakish athletic ability but it's worth noting that he's played in three systems in four years in college and been highly successful at all of them.

stratocatter, of course you are more than "etc", I appreciate the opinions of those who say its only one game. However I agree with The Brain, that its really more than just a game, its for all the marbles and will show many that he knows how to win the big one. I think he "can" help his stock tonight.

And rake, probably the only thing that prevents us from having 100 threads on Cam, is that he just sucks tonight. Maybe the Panthers need a pitiful performance just to remove all doubt. Otherwise the Cam-watch will continue.

I think we should all be hoping he plays lights out. In that case it only makes our pick more valuable to a team that maybe falls in love with him. As Ive said before, if we draft him, Id be ok with that. But Id rather see another team fall in love and trade picks with us. One player is not going to save this team, even Luck, we need more picks.

All 3 systems were the spread offense. So there was no real difference.
