Please understand, as most of you do--the main reason Harbaugh is being married to SFO and DEN, and not CAR, is simple:

Jerry Richardson has put a fucking muzzle on his entire front office. Plus, as an owner, he never talks. Like, ever.

SFO has been yapping a lot, in their front office. Denver too. That's why you see "safe-bet" reporters like Schefter and Mort dock cocks over their reports.

They don't know what to think Carolina will do because they don't ever hear back from anyone within the building.

I have always appreciated this about JR, and whether it's Harbaugh or someone else, I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with the coaching and personnel hires. I say this not as some sort of uber-fan, either. I come from a place that suggests Richardson was being cheap to lay the groundwork for 2011 and beyond, which he now has the ability to do with a lot of dead money off the books. I also know that he wants to win a Super Bowl more than any of us. Finally, he may speaketh as one, but the man's not a fucking dunce.

There are still a ton of (qualified) names out there that haven't even been discussed. Somehow, I still don't see us getting Harbaugh, but I don't think that DQ's us from a potentially better fit, or Luck.

Sorry. I think this (Abusive's post) is well said. I agree with about everything, except there is enough circumstantial evidence to theorize, as you do, that we are not only in the running for Harbaugh, there may already be an agreement.

Here is the list of circumstantial evidence:

Why are the two coaches we know who have been contacted by the Panthers minority DCs?

What did Harbaugh say to Michigan that turned them off?

Why is there talk in SF of hiring Columbo as a last ditch attempt to lure Harbaugh? This could be a knee jerk reaction to steal Harbaugh from another team and is just now getting out.

Why call a conference on the day after the Orange Bowl?

Why was Fox approached on Friday before the last game? Might this suggest that the new coach is already on the hook and it would be disrespectful to Fox if it got out to the media.

Could Marty be in Florida to scout Luck and sign our next coach?

Would Harbaugh want to go to a team in position to grab his QB-the one he thinks will be a great NFL QB?

These are not tells by any means, but it is possible. I also think Luck is more of a sure thing than Harbaugh is. Harbaugh is inexperienced and could have the ability to BS 19 year old players but not 25 year old players.

I hope it's Harbaugh but I'm not holding my breath. Grimm would really, really depress me as would Fewell. Since you hear squat from the Panthers only God knows which direction they plan to go. I do know the fan base needs to get excited after this past season because I know I could barely sit through a game and that's never happened over a season since they were born.

 

I'm placing my bet on the sweepstakes; we get the AL/JH combo. But we still suck next year.

 

If we get a shitty coach and don't get a great QB in the draft this year (like if Luck doesn't come out, etc.) we wil have the first pick in the draft 2012.
