I would propose that 75% of those who are in the "anti-Grimm" crowd will tell you that it's because his line has played poorly this year, but deep down, they hate him because he's a normal looking fat dude.

I like Rivera plenty, and think he could do a lot of good here.

I think he, not unike the younger Shanahan, can probably pull very good coordinators. My biggest worry with either is that they'd want to be 3-4. Grimm isn't sexy, and I think there are better guys out there, but:

If you want a guy that's not terribly far off from what we have, he's that guy. Which given this team structure, isn't a bad thing. With this line, and these backs, he's a great choice to build on strength. It'd be up to him to not fuck up the defense, and to find someone who can make something of Clausen and the young WRs.

Wise (not blind) fans understand how thin the line is between where we are and where we can be. Solidfy the QB deal, get better inside, on both lines, and you really can't go wrong with a coach like Grimm who, much like Fox, would prefer to lead the league in rushing and run some play action from that.

Grimm is not coming in with a lot of clout, maybe they could convince him to keep Meeks. I am pretty happy with our defense given the lack of support they have gotten from the offense this year.

I read today that Damione Lewis had 21 QB pressures in 2009, and by contrast, our entire rotation of DT's in 2010 have 6.

Considering this, and the injuries to Conner, Davis, and the depart of Peppers, I still say Meeks has a handle on it, and the staff is doing a hell of a job teaching the little things.

I'm getting a little excited about Jason Williams. Dude was a beast last week on the stat sheet, and on the field, and he's a damn good fit for C2.

Exactly, our defense is as good as last year despite what we lost on the DL. It is better than it was in 2008. If the offense could do anything at all then the defense would be ranked pretty high.

I hope we keep Meeks. If bridges were not so burnt I would love to keep Fox and just find a better OC.

that D Lewis stat kinda surprised me, because I thought I'd read he'd gone from 20+ pressures in 08 to around 6-8 for 09 himself. But I don't really have the heart to look up where I found that either way.

Lewis could've stayed, but he was somewhat situational anymore. $5 mil or $9 mil, whichever it was going to be, was still a lot for a guy who was declining and is now a backup. I knew in 09, having extended both DTs, that at least one would have been cut had there not been the odd cap rules.

Fwiw, I cited Gantt on the Lewis stat. Perhaps it was a typo, or misread on my part.

Regardless, the interior game needs work. Not much--just one or two better 3-tech dudes.

THIS is why most people would blow their brains out if we hire Russ Grimm.

Unfair or not, when you look at Russ Grimm, you see Jeff Davidson and John Fox. People here are tired of the conservative boring Run X 2, pass on third down O. We need an aggressive Offense. (No, not a Mike Leach offense, but an O that actually knows that a pass is not just the thing you do on 3rd and long). If Jerry hires a guy like Grimm, people will see this as just a continuation of Jerry's 1950's football dream.

yeah I read him quote that. I really have no idea where I read what his pressures were.
