I'd not pass up on Luck if we have the chance. I like Clausen, but you can't have too many good QBs. If both turn out to be great, it's a good problem to have. We always need a backup plan though.

Next, I'd look for the next best CB or O/D lineman available. We need line help on both sides of the ball.

What we need is Steve Smith to get off IR and back on the field.

when you have the opportunity to select a true game-changing player, really a franchise-changing player, you take him. the question is whether or not luck, assuming he comes out, is that type of player.

Hearing a lot of "scouts" without names saying he's better than Bradford and Ryan.

I guess I just think we have a better shot at building a winner by either using our first pick at DT, or trade it down for an additional pick or two.

There will be several veteran QB's, better than Clausen, available via-trade and FA come March. Most top-pick QB's turn out great, but there's always the risk that something won't work.

Of course, that's true with all positions. If you could just find someone that is relatively accurate, with starting experience and a little less fear than JC, do it. Doesn't have to be Peyton Manning, either.

As soon as the CBA gets worked out, and as soon as we can see our offensive staff take shape in 2011, we'll probably have a good idea as to where we'll go with regards to QB. Until then, hard to say. That's why the rest of this season, regarding Clausen, is crucial. The team needs to see if there will be steady strides made, because despite everyone's bullshit, he's played better in his last two starts. If he can, say, roll up to Pittsburgh and do some good things, we'll begin to believe in him, and more importantly, he'll gain belief.

Clausen has been far from impressive, but the same can be said for the entire offensive coaching staff, the entire offensive line, and some key veterans that have not helped him one bit.

clausen has been no worse and no better than anyone else on the roster. i disregard the sf win, because really, had smith stayed in, that's another loss most likely. the impact of moore being the qb that day was minimal. they were unfortunate enough to have carr.

i'll agree that this final run of games should be revealing about clausen. but there needs to be some perspective on it. it's not an excuse that so-and-so is on ir. it's a tough season every year for injuries, and the games still have to be played with who you've got. on the other hand, we've seen a sterling qb performance down the last meaningless stretch before, and then magically turn to rubbish when the pressure is ratched up.

Fuck, I hate to quote Fox, but I will. He always says "every time you play, you put yourself out there on tape."

It's the truth. We have a terrible record, but the team, and the QB, need to work hard in practice, execute on the field, and win some games. Shitting the bed over the next month won't do anybody any good, particularly the new HC (if there is one).

If we can get Luck, we would be fools not to do it. Pay Harbaugh whatever you need to pay him and get both of them here. The NFC South division has some damn good quarterbacks going forward, and I dont like the chances of Clausen going up against Ryan, Brees and even Freemon. With a guy like Luck, the offense can become the strength of the team, with the ability to control the ball and the clock, espcially given the the amount of resources we have invested in the running game.
