I was under the impression that he offered the job to SS, but got turned down for more money (thank god). Then he offered the job to Dungy, who turned it down to coach Peyton Manning.

Absolutely. We could get by without an external minority candidate.

Skipper or Meeks would suffice. Could interview Dungy again ...but I would prefer him to the availables.

I don't know that there was evidence we even talked with SS, much less an offer.

I almost faintly remember SS meeting with Mark Richardson during the process, but I think it ended up being more media-driven horseshit.

I also don't think we should look at people like Harbaugh or Ferentz as the typical college-guy red flag. Both have extensive NFL ties (Ferentz dating back to Belichick's all-star staff in Cleveland).

I just don't know if Harbaugh is a JR guy. Grimm is pretty much a white, fat Jim Caldwell. Classy, quiet, smart. JR seems to like that.

I was going strictly off of memory, but some quick research shows SS linked to us everytime we have been in the HC market. Not sure of a formal offer, but I believe there was interest there, and more than once. And there was no way we were outbidding the Skins. Of course, SS probably knew that and used us as a negotiating tool.

But back on point, there is no evidence to conclude that JR isn't willing to spend on the coach he wants. Of course, he's not going to overspend which is what it will probably take to get Cowher or Gruden (neither of which i particularly want anyway).

I'm not satisfied with Meeks. We give up points pretty early and easily. Out of 10 games, the Saints are the only team not to score 20 or more points against us.

Grimm is safe, and we like safe. Jordan Gross got a huge check from us.

If he were having more success - if he were Russ Grimm with, say, Bill Callahan's current cred - I'd love it. Because on paper it makes sense. They get a coach, not a coordinator who's going to keep doing his half of the team and spend the other half the game waving his sushi menu while yelling at his half of the guys.

It's a good match for our offensive strengths, if he were as good as he should be, but that doesn't fucking make our passing game good.
