My thoughts exactly. I guess they're afraid to go short with the safety standing near the line of scrimmage.

Most do run a spread in college. There's still going to be a learning process with any rookie QB. We've all seen how much Clausen has struggled, despite having some background with Jeff Davidson's fabulous offense.

A guy can play or he can't.

yeah most of college runs a spread. Our four backs came from one, Rosario and Barnidge. I don't feel like looking up LSU or Baylor. There's limitations to each - our ends can't block, for instance.

FWIW on our offense, seems like the Saints and Pats do allright. I do think that "you can or can't" doesn't really apply for QBs out of the gate. Plenty of prospects take time.

It's clearly going to take time with Clausen. His mistakes have really been less about his surroundings and more about him. Moore has the physical ability, and seems to have a better football IQ in terms of how to change things at the line. He just seems to shit the bed whenever he's anointed "the guy". So that's not going to work, either.

What made Jake unique was the fact that he was, yes, fearless. His first game in Carolina proved it. Many other games that followed proved it.

On the subject of Jake, I think one of his finest moments was the 2-minute drill at San Diego. No Smith, banged up O-Line, what was then a very potent pass-rush from both ends, and that fucker spread the ball around and made plays. The pass to Rosario, while somewhat of a miracle, was an absolute rope, and the pump fake and pocket presence was just a damn work of art.

    And then, 2009 happened.

You don't have to be a cajun piss-ant to do what we need done, but Clausen--to this point--shows no fearlessness. In fact, he looks lost, scared, and somewhat aloof. But looks, as we know, don't tell the whole story.

Pike--whatever. I don't care if his arm is a fucking noodle. Worked for Chad Pennington for several years. If he's efficient, can get the ball off quickly, and show some of the savvy that Moore did in 07 and 09, then we might have a good backup plan for a while.

But, dear god, I hope our answer for the future at QB is not on this current roster.
