Smith needs to stay a Panther. After sticking with him through his troubles trading him now makes no sense.

Article I read says he was worried because a facemask hit right on the spot where it was broken but he got it looked at and he is fine.

he's got a couple of years left, i'd think. he's a speed and athleticism receiver, not a possession guy (though he could maybe turn into that and extend his career). he should be getting 15 targets a game. maybe clausen's can do it.

I don't think Smith wants to play for anybody but Fox... if Fox is out, you might see Smith follow him

He could be a slot guy long after the prime provided he doesn't get injured.

Smith is very good at several things, none of which we should hope to lose:

    1. Getting off the jam
    2. Finding spots in zone coverage
    3. Run blocking
    4. Route running
His hands are about average, although he has (per Gruden) come out of some "garbage-piles" with some Hall-of-Fame catches.

As for his level of interest in staying here, I don't think he's saying, "you know, hell if they just traded me to the Giants, it would all be better." I see him as extremely loyal to Richardson, and I truly believe he loves living here.

He just can't punch anybody anymore. Won't work.

I believe Smith would embrace four things:

    1. A new, fat contract
    2. A new head coach
    3. A new offensive coordinator
    4. Another veteran receiver

Smith is how old now 31? Maybe two or three good years left at best? He is awesome and I would love to see him retire a panther but if we are going to give up and start over he will be past his prime before we are a playoff team again.

What really sucks is that we had this core of good players for all these years under Fox and we never really maximized it. A top ten quarterback would have probably gotten us to the superbowl a couple of times. Jake got us there once so imagine a really solid guy.
