i noticed on defending one play in the last game on 3rd 8, 2 backs in the backfield, the panthers took out anderson and put Captain in as the other LB with Beason. anyone else see this or have thoughts. btw, jets missed pass.

Are you saying Beason was the only linebacker, or was Connor still in the game?

I'm guessing we'd see more Dime this year with TD out.

I remember seeing Connor go to the sideline, was figuring Beason was in the middle. Didn't notice who came in when Connor left. I remember Beason saying somewhere that he would be playing some middle on passing downs.

interesting. Technically, that's dime, not nickel. They disguise it a bit by having him aligned there* but it's not terribly uncommon. I remember it as far back as Toi cook in 1996 and Dom probably did it before that, too. Dom never really did anything that others hadn't first so it's been around a while.

*or, it wasn't four wide, which is as likely a reason - no reason to have that player outside formation to cover air if he's covering the under or picking up a secondary guy.

I missed the part about it being just being Beason as the other LB, so dime. Is that uncommon?

it's certainly not as common as nickel, but sure it's used in heavy passing situations. The only real drawbacks?
finding 6 DBs that don't suck, making sure you don't get run on hard enough to make you change your attack, and not using the extra DBs to give up too much underneah room.

It's pretty uncommon for the Panthers. We do alot of nickel variations, but not often have we used 6DBs.

need to do it more . . . slot, TE, and RBs continue to be wide open at will on passing downs
