I can't remember a WR having a good first year like that and then just tanking like Colbert did, other than him. Usually they start off slow and then either stay slow or get better. Jarrett has been more typical of a guy who sucks early on. It makes me wonder if there is a reason behind why Colbert fell of the edge of the earth like that.

we're throwing to our RB's & TE's more... spreading the ball, finding the guy that's open... I don't feel the importance of a legit #2 is as important in this offense as in seasons past

Personel is looking more like a Pats offense, Brady didn't beat you because he's a great QB, he beat you because he could find the guy that was open and hit him. I think when Davidson got here, we didn't have the right people to run his offense, we're a lot closer now.

that's what i like about Clausen over Moore the most, his vision and ability to find the open guy... that and Moore plays like he learned to play QB from Jake

so what is a "great" QB other than a guy than can consistently complete downfield passes and handoffs and make the right play and lead his team to lots of TDs?

weren't his first two picks Jarrett and Kalil? (Kalil would seem to fit, not so sure about Jarrett)

then he followed with Stewart and Otah (which would seem to be Fox smashmouth football moreso than Davidson's pretty ball).

he followed that with Goodson (curious pick) and Tony F. (again, smashmouth).

this is the first year since he has been here that's there's been an emphasis on the passing game in the draft, which would start to support your point (I'm thinking his system would ideally kill you with the short passing game and crush you with the running game -- basically take what the D gives) ... that we've finally started in that direction.

btw, he's done a very good job of picking OL (kalil, otah, schwartz, mack b, and duke).

it would also seem that edwards and gettis (sp?) would be the perfect fit for this offense if they can get them coached up. so yes i agree we're closer but i'm afraid still a year or two away before we see pretty ball.

i can see that too and hope everyone is right, but i don't think there's any way they start him this year barring an injury or complete collapse by Moore.

but to your point, Clausen would seem to be the perfect QB for Davidson's system. very football smart, very accurate in the short passing game, and having a enough arm to make teams defend the long ball. having had 3 years in the system, i will bet that he isn't long for the starter's job ... so try to not turn blue holding your breath.

que? haven't seen that riverboat gambler in him.

just sayin... even the way he interviews, they way he points at mike, stares down his WR, slow release, high throws, footwork, and of course the fumble on the first drive last week... lol

Jarrett made no less sense than the other guys we've put in that spot since 2006 - Key, we looked at David Givens, Moose. He's just not mature at a body type that suggests needing to know all the tricks to get it done - I still won't buy maturity until I see some bigger fight for the ball. He can make a bit of a living on back shoulder fades if we had to do so, but he's not there until he can get balls while not open and push the DB away.
