Isn't it a bit of a gamble as well that the team doesn't suck horribly and the fans backlash at ownership who is trying to make a point to the league at the expense of the team? Maybe its just me.

that would be a concern, sure.

I don't know. I guess it depends on where the issue comes from. Does Fox disagree with the budget? Does Hurney? Even if so, they have to agree to drop Harris, who certainly did have a fairly cumbersome salary for a guy who didn't fit our defense.

I don't think, given what this team traditionally wanted, that they'd normally live without Moose, Lewis, Harris, or others. Hell, there's a chance Jake would still be here.

But, a post-Peppers, Delhomme Panthers world came with changes. This is part of those changes. I can understand that. I think Fox sees that, and is frustrated by that, but understands it nonetheless.

which is one of the main reasons i don't see Marshall getting a new contract...

but i'm excited about the young talent on the team too... we do have a lot of speed... and that's a great point about the 7th easiest schedule. If we can win some games and get to the play-offs, it'll be exciting and next year most of these guys will be returning

still not a fan of our TE's, but between the upgrades to WR & St's, there's a lot to get excited about... factor in QB's, DL, and Secondary... I think the Panthers will be very exciting to watch this year...

with young talent comes big plays & big mistakes... Fox has to be pumped about the challenge of coaching up these young guys... so many positions are wide open, these guys will compete hard for playing time. If they gel like in '03.... look out

now are we the youngest team in the league or what? how do we find that out?

Fox cant possibly be happy with this. How can he when his job is on the line? Its a shame beacuse hes one of the better coaches in the league. We're setting him up for failure with so many question marks on our roster.

I'm kind of excited for the season. I like the fact that they've started getting younger and faster. I don't know if this is going to translate into a playoff team but it will be interesting to watch as the season rolls on. I'm sure we'll all be bitching when they screw up and lose a game but this is what we've got so we may as well support it. And enjoy it when they pull one out they shouldn't have.

Fox should get a pass for this season. Whether he does or not I don't know but he's definitely being pushed into a corner.

I read this whole situation as JR showing confidence in Fox past this year.

Whether Fox wants to return, who knows.

I think Fox is happy with whatever angle it takes to keep his job another year. I'd rather them be going cheep preparing for a lockout than going with a willy nilly go young plan when it isn't needed. There is no "the plan".

Interesting point about Jerry having confidance in Fox.
When it became know that Fox was not getting a contract extension everyone assumed it was because Jerry was not happy with teams performance. While he might not exactly be thrilled with the teams performance, I think he realizes what an excellent coach Fox is and the fact that this will be a "transition" year. We've also have not (and probabaly will not) sign anyone to contract extensions until the labor issue is resolved.
Jerry maybe old but he's not dumb.
