hey, look, another one of these threads.

first thing that jumps up at me is the clumping. The multiple CBs, QBs, WR, and rushers, along with nothing else.

It'll be a priority place for a lineman - we bring starting four back, and three to fight for the RG, but that's all we have. That doesn't mean we needed to burn the 4th on it, but the largest unresolved need was another cheap depth lineman. I feel that after pulling some guys from 7, and pulling some guys from the undrafted pile, in the last couple years, that a UDFA could make the team. Luckily, they won't need anything this year. There's the expectation that we need something for next year, I guess. If Kalil doesn't stay, I do have to expect Bernadeau steps in, so not getting a C specifically isn't a damning enterprise.

But, it's the first time since 1998 that we haven't drafted a lineman. Not coincidentally, our worst lines were 1998-2000, much of it thanks to Capers' neglect of it.

I have no idea what to really make of the extra WR, the extra CB. Hurney's thoughts seem to suggest that they're already prepared to redshirt Edwards, talking about how he'll do next year.

If you say that it's direct competition, that might work at CB, where you keep the best two and CJ Wilson bites it. Since he and Wesley are gone in that situation, there are two spots. Hudson is a S, as is Martin.

But the other two spots, you have a bigger hierarchy. Lafell is clearly a guy who would be ahead of Edwards. Physically, developmentally, and they just fit into that pair of roles. You can say Clausen fights Moore, but you can't say Pike fights anything - Cantwell can't make this roster and they didn't put a 6 into a guy to not give him more than camp.

Certainly, there's a plan in place for 2011, and you don't make draft moves for short-sighted reasons. There seems to be a legit hierarchy - they're ready for Edwards and Gettis after Jarrett's a FA. They're ready for Pike to be the backup if Moore doesn't make it. Hell, they seem plenty content to let Pike, Edwards, Norwood take a year and bulk.

I don't think they do that if they plan on not having a coach back, but I guess Hurney's back either way, and if Fox doesn't stay it'll be someone hired who would retain the same philosophies (and possibly the coordinators). So, may as well want Fox to stay, right?

Last year was a frustrating season. Every other season seems to be a frustrating season but I don't think Fox would be easy to replace and he won't have any trouble finding work. If he goes, I get the feeling that its as much his decision as management's, like this is his contractual obligation season. Maybe I'm reading too much into not showing up for a press conference but I have to wonder if Fox is just ready to move on.

I hope Fox is back. He is not the best coach in the NFL but he is one of the better ones. We usually contend under him if we stay healthy. If one of these QBs pan out then I think we get a lot more consistent. Jake was always streaky.

I like drafting two QBs. Between those two and Moore we should have at least one guy who can play. I was inclined to get a vet behind Moore and call it a day but this has a lot of potential upside. We got great value on both of them. Nice to see some WRs come in as well.

I feel good about Clausen. Everyone says he played hurt and behide a terrible line the whole time at ND. He will have a terrrific running game and good line at Carolina.

Only concern is trading next year's 2 for Edwards. I assume they have him for PR and slot receiver. Giving up next year's 2 for a 3 this year is a reach.

I actually think they're happy with the linemen they traded for last year. PLus Ed Johnson.

I think the focus of the draft backs up this thought.

The dude appears to have his head on straight when having to growup in that situation he could have easily went in another direction.

I've always liked Fox as our leader, but with his history of being stubborn and sticking with Jake for so long, I just find it interesting that Fox struck up an interest with Tebow, and now we've drafted 2 QB's (Clausen could be a starter). I don't know if Fox's interest in these QB's has more to do with his wanting to improve our offense or his lack of faith in Moore, but either way I like the new Fox. His old stubborn style was too boring. I too wonder why we couldn't get a lineman somewhere in the draft, except I do like who we took.

I just thought I'd die when they announced Clausen as our pick, because for all of the last few years that everyone's been arguing "we can't get a QB",,, well between Moore and Clausen, we should finally have one. And while those 2 guys are both young and THEY WILL make mistakes, I believe they both have the ability to be better than Jake ever was. I'm excited.
