Clausen - I like it, who knows if he'll suck or not. Doesn't matter a whole lot b/c the franchise is not on his shoulders, ala Bradford, Stafford, and other very high picks. He landed in a great spot, we got kissed by the lord GOD by being denied by the Rams, and all is wonderful.

I don't think he starts this year b/c I think Moore is good. I think we sign a vet, and Cantwell goes through camp and hits the practice squad.

LeFell - never know. We have a very young receiving corps, and then Smitty. If he can step in and be the #2 that would be wild. At this point, I'd still think they'd give Jarrett the nod for #2 due to his experience and their reluctance to start rookies.

That said - this year they've gone against the grain. Whacking alot of vets, going young everywhere, Moore, drafting a qb high ( who they attempted to give up next year's first for ), so they could throw rookies out there this year. Doubt we have a rookie WR and QB starting, though.

Edwards - other than the reach it's a fun pick. Hard to look past that though.

When's the last time we went ALL offensive skill positions on day 1? ever? QB/WR/WR? That shit is fun. And poor Charly Martin. Kenny Moore?

i thought i read they were NOT going to give up a No. 1 in 2011 to move up. it's not that the rams said no, it's that their asking price was too high.

Biggest disappointemnt for me is that Javier Arenas went earlier than most thought. I'd hoped we would have a shot at him.

I feel the same way about Clausen. To paraphrase Herm Edwards, we are dating him, we aren't married.

We may or may no sign a vet, but I'm not sure that vet is going to be anything more than a 3rd string guy for veteran presence. Maybe a guy like Kitna. I think the message of this offseason is the future is now. We are so young at evey position.

I also don't mind Edwards. He's an athlete, and we need one of those. I don't know if he can play or not, but I'm gald we are looking for playmakers.

probably so. They probably offered 48 and 2nd round 2011, and didn't want to get rid of 78.

I wasn't a big Clausen fan, until I put the Weis-Davidson-Offense connection together.

Makes one wonder if Charlie Weis will be the head coach of the Panthers in 2011 :biggrinjester:

The guy looks really good on film, but I don't like the Clausen pick at all. The reason is the question of his intangibles. Maybe I'm over-valuing that aspect of the position, but history has shown two things:

a QB with great intangibles and less-than-stellar talent can win, and win big.

a QB with great talent and a lack of intangibles won't.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope Clausen comes in and clicks with our locker room. If he does, he could easily be the best QB the franchise has ever known. That's the upside. The good news is that the down side isn't that bad. We would have lost a shot at a great #2 receiver in Tate, and blown another solid draft pick, but what else is new? It's not like the Pittsburgh/Roethlisberger situation, or San Diego/Leaf disaster. We've got Moore -- a proven commodity, who I believe can lead this team and win.

Agree with hb, except i'm seeing the cup half - full because the downside is not bad at all.

He won't start, he's not getting 50 million guaranteed, he's 22, he knows the offense, he has the physical skills, really the only question is the intangibles. If we miss on the intangibles, cheap date. If we hit on it, we might have a very, very good qb for 10 years.

Really, really great value pick. Tremendous upside, minimal downside.

It's hard to even have a real discussion about intangibles due the very definition of the word. You got to mean something....is it leadership....is it being a riverboat gambler? I'm pretty sure he's considered a good leader. I know he got a bad rap coming out of highschool, but what since?
