Moore is temporary in the fact that we really don't know what we have in him. He played well for a few games, but I wouldn't put all my money in that basket. What if he gets injured? What if he doesn't play like he did last season? We need some insurance. Even if Moore turns out to be everything we hope to be, we need to start finding/grooming someone else to be that franchise guy. Instead, we have a bunch of guys that were cast-offs from somewhere else.

Carrying two kickers is pointless if the guy can no longer make the kicks. Would we carry a running back who couldn't run? A receiver who couldn't catch? A quarterback who couldn't....never mind, bad example.

WR is definitely an issue. We need to find someone to replace Moose and ideally, Smith. Everywhere else, we might be solid, but we can improve at corner, safety, DL and OL. I'm not sure the fact that Hoover still playing means he's that good or we can't scout halfbacks.

once teams had seen enough film of early jake in carolina he started to not look so damn good and his weaknesses became strengths for opposing secondaries and pass rushes. The same will be true of moore, or any new (untested) QB. Guys like Brady, Manning, and Brees are going to win consistently because they are smart/experienced enough to read and adjust from game to game. Jake sucks at that, and he's prone to the same foils game after game. Will moore be any better once he gets zeroed in on? If he gets to start this year we'll see.

Think of it this way: David Garrard and Derek Anderson were good in 2007 that good was only temporary.

My point is just that Moore is young and can play for another ten years plus. I think he is as likely to be good as anyone else we might bring in. If you want to see us bring in an insurance policy against Moore fizzling out next year then I can agree with you. I do not think we need to sign a guy to replace him though. The problem is we are stuck with Jake and he will be the backup. There are probably going to be better options available than Jake for a backup but I do not see us pursuing any of them.

If we don't bring in someone now, where are we in 3 years even if Moore pans out? The problem we had last year is that we really didn't have a backup plan. We got lucky with Moore towards the end of the season, but remember, he was the 3rd string guy. I seriously believe the reason we held Jake in there for so long is that nobody expected Moore to play well.

Aren't you the big proponent of competition at training camp?

If he pans out then he should be here as our starter in 3 years. He is only 25 years old. Not many teams have a guy as good as their starter sitting on the bench. Solid QBs are just to hard to find.

Who would you suggest we bring in at QB?

Do I share the opinion of many fans that an experienced starting caliber QB should be brought to carolina . . . yes
Do I have a clue who that might be . . . no
Will the panters trot into the season opener with jake, moore, and some useless scrub/castoff . . . probably

And he won't be able to until he's given a chance to start. There's only so much you can show coming off the bench a few games here and there.
