We were supposed to refer to him as syphillis after that year. I suggest we start doing that after he's gone.

I think it is smart not to franchise him. 23 million is too high. Let the market establish his value and beat that.

8 years and 65 mil in the bank. he had plenty of time to reach his potential, and he was offered to be the highest paid player in the league. hes had a few half-assed seasons. blame it on lack of heart or double-secret whore flu, he is what he is. Jenkins was every bit as good at his position and the Panthers survived getting rid of him. thanks for the years but time to let go.

hate it but yep, thanks for the years. i was and will remain a huge fan despite how much his loss is going to hurt the team. i think he's making a terrible decision but, but he's allowed and i wish him well. a no-win situation for the Panthers, best thing they can and have done is move on without pissing in the wind. hope, Peppers is wise enough to do the same.

I obviously don't like this. In my mind, I'd be willing to pay it. I think that's part of it - they won't pay - but it's also a "no one man is bigger than our team" feeling.

There's no doubt he's been a distraction. I think the team saw how handicapped they were with other, lesser contracts - Wahle, Lucas - and saw they didn't want to do that with the biggest contract the team would sign for at least another decade. And then you'd pay Thomas Davis, and he'd get half that. Jon Beason would get half that. Ryan Kalil would get half that, and logically the market bears those prices but it's a shit statement.

Personally, in an uncapped year, it makes a lot more sense to swallow $20 million than it did last year to swallow $17 million. I would've easily taken the chance to trade him again - they didn't have to say today that they were building through the draft and wouldn't sign some big name to replace him (the media's so silly, throwing out names like Kampmann to inept newbie armchair GMs). So getting a draft pick is for the best, IMO.

But, having let him walk is a statement to a point, not only to our players, but to the league. I don't think I'm going to get all pissy with JR like some are choosing to do, and say he won't put money into this team, I think he's had enough of this situation. I know he's hurt more in all this than any of us. He has to live with the decision more than anyone else.

So, if we're a team full of John Fox guys instead of Pro Bowlers, I can be OK with that.
