What's the point? If you need someone else's help to get into the playoffs that is no ones problem but your own. I don't think the NFL should force teams to play their starters in meaningless games. They don't do it in the pre-season, I'm not even sure how they think they can enforce something like this (fairly.)

Bottom line, if you haven't secured your playoff position by now, then you should be thankful for any help you receive. Don't cry just because Indy doesn't want Peyton to blow out a knee in a meaningless game.

I think it's worth a look, but I doubt there's any realistic change. I think it's just a fact of the 8-division 12 team playoff system.

Maybe if you didn't guarantee home field?

Is is not fair enough that they have a playoff system that can allow marginal teams like Arizona to get to the Super Bowl? They shouldn't do anything to accommodate mediocre teams that weren't good enough to win their division. Pittsburgh should have beaten Oakland at home if they were serious about making the playoffs.

there definitely isn't enough quality to add any additional spots.

But as a matter if whether week 16 is or should ever matter to teams who are ahead of the next team by a game, I have a hard time thinking the NFL will ever find a way to force teams to make uninteresting games interesting. If that were the case they'd have to have entire teams just forfeit from week 12 on and re-match the same media darlings over and over. Hey, it's Cowboys/Eagles, part nine!

Of course, they could make the CBA include a lot more positive incentives without harming the player on the negative side (you get what you get and could get a lot more, but you can't get less if you suck) but I don't see owners going for that and the cap becomes a much larger mess.

If you are coaching a team and have the post season locked up, you are nuts not to protect some of your better players. The same knuckleheads crying about some players being taken out are the same who would criticize if the stars got hurt in a meaningless game,

The issue is really being blown out of proportion. If my team was good enough to rest players I would feel lucky.

That's going to happen one way or the other. If the competition committee forces Peyton to play, do you really think Indy is going to run an all-out gameplan? Or do you think they might call a few fullback dives and just play safe anyway?

I just don't see how anything is truly enforceable. If your team is in position to have everything wrapped up, then tough shit if some other team needs their help.
