I'd be major upset if I was a player on Indy and saw my coaches giving away the game by not playing our best players.

I agree, pull Peyton and others if your up double digits in the 4th but otherwise you're cheating yourselves and the fans.

Mercury Morris probably has a hard on watching it

    Good-bye unbeaten season!

Jets are now up 29-15. I guess Indy pulled Manning for Curtis Painter, who fumbled right away. Indy was up 15-10 when Manning left.

If Manning gets hurt in the 2nd half of a meaningless game, Caldwell loses his job.

To me, though, that's playing scared. He could get hurt at any time. I don't like teams playing scared.

Staying/getting healthy is the most important aspect when it comes to getting ready for the playoffs. When you have that opportunity, you take advantage of it.

I get not wanting to risk losing star players but taking your foot off the gas isn't the way to do it. The players (from what I've read) thrive on routine. Playing 2 or three quarters isn't their routine. In addition, can they turn it back on as easily?

Being physically recovered and being able to gameplan a month in advance for potential opponents is a tremendous advantage.

That doesn't guarantee that you're going to play well when that game rolls around, but it's an advantage. It's akin to getting a brand new set of custom fit golf clubs. Doesn't mean you're automatically going to shoot in the 60's, but it's still a benefit.

do you have a better solution?

I've read several players saying when you play not to get hurt the opposite can happen, and it's not a total disruption of the routine just because you aren't playing in games doesn't mean you don't practice/walkthrough.
