Davidson is just one of those side effects of Fox that we'll have to deal with. Same probably goes for Crossman.

Davidson's been so terrible with a serviceable QB, so I don't know how we can really bring him back.

This is going to sound ironic coming from me, but some of you guys sound like novice fans. Fox has done a good job this year. Most of our guys have done a good job. If not for Jake falling off a cliff we are in the playoffs. Add that to that the fact that we have had a lot of injuries this year and it puts it in perspective.

Thelt, serious question. You say Fox has done a "good" job this year. Would you like to explain?

Because I swear,,, I don't even know how to respond to that. The way I see it, the team came out of training camp not ready, they weren't competitive in a single exhibition game, and then Fox's stubborness once again came to light in an alltime low with his sticking by Jake who was having his worst year ever. And as I have entitled this thread, (its only my opinion) but I do not believe Fox would've ever given Matt Moore a chance, except that Jake had an injury. And the reason I say that is because Jake "fell off that cliff" week after week, and yet Fox repeatedly said all year long that "we had our best chance to win with Jake",,, not Moore.

So seriously, what exactly do you think Fox has done good this year?

Well, he kept the team from quitting on him. He coached them to 7 wins after starting 0-3. He coached the team into playing good defense. He coached the #3 rush offense in the league. He even coached Jake Delhomme back into looking like a respectable QB for a little while.

Plenty more to overcome. You can say he waited too long to pull the plug on Jake, and I'd say he was a game or two late, sure. Guy made a mistake. And we're playing the level football we are right now.

Please, tell me you are referring to Matt Moore.... :)

That reason and the fact that Fox does not make good in-game decisions are the reasons why he should be fired. On the other hand, this team is playing lights-out when it could have shut it down and that goes to Fox's credit and the biggest reason why he should stay. So for me, that makes Fox's future a "Damned if you do - damned if you don't" decision.

Fox did this year what he always has done and always will do. He kept the team competitive in the most competitive league on Earth.

Fox is conservative. He said when he got hired that he wasn't into making major changes or gambling. He is going to play the odds and play it close to the vest always. That is why he is only going to tweak things when they need changing. He will go with the veteran over the youngster.

One thing that no one gives him credit for; let Henning go in favor of a new OC, and let Trgo go in favor of a new DC. These are not easy things for a Head Coach to do, but since it is one of the only things that he can directly control, he gets all the credit and all the blame for those hirings. In my opinion he is doing his job and should remain coach of the Panthers.

The Peppers situation was completely out of Fox's control, but had a major impact on the team's ability to do anything in the off-season. Peppers didn't make it any easier on the team either.

Nobody saw the Delhomme train wreck coming so how can you blame that on Fox?

At the end of the day, Fox is a veteran coach that would be hard to replace with a better option - so you better have a good plan if you get rid of him.

It's going to be interesting, Fox would be in his last year if he stayed and coaches hate to function as lame ducks. Plus, he could get another gig. Wonder if he surprises everyone and resigns, if JR doesn't extend him.

Magnus, I agree with everything you just said, except I just can't give him credit for coaching us to 7 wins. We don't smell 7 wins if Jake is still our QB, and Fox never wanted Moore out there.

Btw, you most certainly CAN blame Jake's trainwreck season on Fox, because there's been a ton of folks (for years) saying we needed another QB, yet we have passed on free agent after free agent. I will even go so far to say, that if Fox gets fired, his sticking with Jake this year may have been his downfall. Because honestly I don't believe Fox's job was even in jeopardy until he stuck with Jake for so long.

I would be willing to bet if John Fox could have a "do-over",,,, after last year's playoff disaster, if Fox would've brought in a quality backup and/or given Matt Moore a fair chance during training camp and the start of this season, even if he started 2009 with Jake, if he would've pulled Jake after about the 3rd/4th WTF Jake episode this year, if he would've done that, then nobody would be talking about firing John Fox today. Mark that down.

Fox didn't do that, consequently with each and every Jake INT, Fox's leadership came under fire more and more.

I think the guy cutting the checks on that extension might have had some input.
