really? I don't look at 2006 and think, man, that team could've been fucking dominant.

I'd love to be one of those teams. Everyone wants to. A few are lucky enough to do it - if there was a checklist to make it happen and such a thing was just something you do and get done, well, there'd still be 31 teams looking on the outside.

That's not fucking settling. It's a reality of the NFL.

I count fourteen, but I didn't spend a ton of time. It included teams like Dallas - who hasn't won shit for all those years of making it in. With Parcells, even. It includes Tampa, who didn't have two winning seasons in a row until the year Gruden was fired.

And no, we're not one of them. That part sucks. Should we have made consecutive appearances? Sure. Can you show me a year we didn't make it that we deserved to get in?

We can do better than Fox (we can also do much, much worse). That's not what this is about. Realistically, being a dominant team doesn't happen. That's making it every year. You get lucky to see a few of those in a decade, and no, I don't believe that realistically the team I chose to follow would also just happen to be the dominant team in all of sports. This isn't Peter Pan. It doesn't happen because you decide you want it.

yeah i came up with 16. personally, i dont expect dominance every year. what i would like is to see improvement, see a plan, and see us getting better at it year after year. what i see however is panic, and a lot of question marks. they have this "plan", but i dont think even they believe in it.

We have been in the running most years. We were 1-7 and had a longshot going into week 16 or 17 to make the postseason in 2004.

I'm pleased with everything except throwing tons of interceptions every_fucking_game.

since 2002, every team that has had 3 or more winning seasons has had consecutive winning seasons except 2, us and the Falcons. actually, thats incorrect, the Jets also havent had consecutive winning seasons in that time span yet they've had 4 winning seasons.

"the plan" was a meatpile invention, the team never really had one...hence the spending sprees, pissed off pro bowlers, zone blocking, power running, overpaying, coordinator quitting, smaller quicker dl back to larger beefier dl, trade the future away, sign your future away bs.

reality. consecutive winning seasons isn't so much what i'm after. that's nothing more than winning 1 more than you lost, but it's a benchmark to be sure.
and while video game-style dominance would be delightful, that's by very nature unrealistic.
reality is also having competent qb play. we don't have that at all. i'll accept the argument that joke is the best we have. it's probably true, which is sad and unfortunate. i'm not one that thinks any of the other qbs are going to be saviors. but that's the tip of the iceberg for me on fox-hurney.

i know it's personal interpretation, and that's fine, but settling for mediocrity, or not good enough, or up and down, or back and forth, or 1 of 28, or 7-9, or 2-14, or maybe next year, or 36 ints, or however else it can be described isn't for me. i am not content with that reality of the team. and i think that is where my perspective deviates from other opinions on the board.
