eh. thanks for the memories and it was a great run, but you need to get on out of here. and take marty “smarty” hurney with you.

and that's how it needs to be. there's a bit of wishful thinking and romanticizing and glossing over with some of the foxy talk.

i'm going to be lazy. my original post about it is there. it's nothing that hasn't really been touched on here if you think about it, and i'm sure most of us are opinionated enough that we can add and delete trom that list ad nauseum. there's a few things i would add to it, like throwing 40+ times against the worst run d. and trotting joke out for most-likely another int-fest.

as for the sympathetic tone on some of the posts here...he's not playing the hand that was dealt him. while smarty hurney is guilty of his portion of idiotic blunders, it has been stated numerous times that he and fox work in tandem on personnel. these are the rotten fruits of their labors. without checking numbers, he is the 2nd longest tenured coach in the nfc, behind reid, and the 4th longest in the nfl, tied with lewis. it would be wonderful, pure sweet cake, if we were winning division titles every year and making serious runs in the post-season. and maybe that is unrealistic. except other teams do it. why can't we? there is talent on this team, and certainly more than a 2-4 record, and fortunate at that, would indicate. but it's almost like it's overloaded talent at some spots, and an absolute dirge elsewhere. but the thing is, these questionable players aren't remaking the seinfeld episode where kramer just shows up and starts “working” somewhere, they were all brought in by fox-hurney, working as a team, and they decided, “ya, we can win with this.”

    and they haven't.

    I'd say Henning is

    at best

the third best offensive mind on his own team.

Tony Sparano was a very good OC. It was Jones' meddling that put Garrett in - before a head coach. Which was fucking stupid. And costly, now that Garrett isn't even good enough to be considered the heir apparent.

And David Lee is top notch. That guy's gonna be a hell of a college head coach in the very near future.

Some of Fox's assistant hires haven't been great - but assistant coaching isn't the problem. What we're trying, it works when you execute. So that's back to the head coach or the players, or both.

pats and colts have had glorious runs over their divisions.

i think the colts have an amazing like 10 year stretch of consecutive playoff beths...and yes, they have manning, but it's funny they have playmakers catching the ball everywhere. it's like shark teeth, an endless supply, one gets old and worn out and a sharp new one takes it place. are they on to the secret fomula of drafting gamebreakers, or is it manning, or coaching, or none, or all? we have a growing string of busts.

to a lesser extent, steelers, the team we admit we wish we were, have done well in their division over the years, and won 2 superbowl titles, 2 more than us.
i would also say the chargers have had a respectable run.

philly, even with an unbalanced offense and subpar wr at times is an every-year contender. giants have a string of playoff berths and a superbowl.

bears won 2 in a row, and got to the superbowl, and vikes will make it 2 in a row this year, and have a shot at the superbowl.

same as above for seahawks and cards and rams before those.

    it happens.

so about 4 teams out of the league sustain success for a long amount of time, and about half of the league would've loved to be where we've been in the last six.

We need to do better than what we are now but this team will never be in the playoffs every single year.

Hall of fame QBs raise the level of their WRs, see Brady and Branch Givens Patten.

absolutely. that's not quite the point though. more so, why settle? why say less is okay? i mean this can double for m's response. why be one of the 28 teams that would like to be at the top? why accept anything but the best? why get by on a bad situation?

no thanks. we've collectively, as fans and franchise, become too ready to buy into settling.

Why not? With the core of players we have had the past few years we should have been a playoff regular. Injuries have played a part in the past but not so much this year. Kemo is the only really notable guy to go down this year and we seem to have adequately replaced him, even if it was three games into the season.

I have been a fan of Jake's since he got here but the fact is he has always been erratic. So has the team, maybe they are linked....
