Steam cleaning kicks ChemDry's collective ass. Did the ChemDry thing last year and the steam cleaning yesterday. BIG difference in quality. Only drawback with steam cleaning is the carpet stays wet a while. OK to walk on, just need to wear bedroom shoes.

I had my carpets professionally steam cleaned on MOnday. I normally do them myself. However- I had an unfortunate ink spot from a pen chewing puppy.
He got every single mark out of a square foot saturated area. It was worth every penny.

I'd do it myself but with two rugrats running around that just isn't practical. I did have one stain that wouldn't come out completely. It is much lighter now and barely noticeable only if you know it's there. Overall, I was impressed with the steam cleaning versus the ChemDry process. I know, sometimes it's the little things.

Used Stanley Steemer a number of times. Other than the damp carpets I've been very pleased with the results. They've gotten stains out of the carpet that I thought would be there forever.

That's who I used. I tend to clean the carpets, if needed, once a year. I'll use them again in the future.

I thought ink was impossible to remove. Huh.

I have Blue carpet in the house and with pets it's hell to keep clean. I had it cleaned by a professional a few years ago and it looked good for a while but this time I decided to clean it myself. After doing extensive research on the net I decided to invest in a new Hoover silver line carpet steam cleaner. I found one at the super walmart for $139 bucks and used it yesterday. This machine kicks ass. My carpet looks like new again. The machine took out pet stains that have been there for a long time. This machine is also very easy to use. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a lot of carpet to keep clean.

How much, in quantity and cost, are the chemicals, etc that you have to buy? I may get some type of maching for future use. Prio to letting the professionals do it, I researched renting a carpet cleaner. However, after renting one and then buying all the stuff, it only came out a little more expense to have the carpets professionally cleaned. I said the hell with it and let them do it.

I used a bottle of the rug doctor cleaner[$12.00]. I also bought a bottle of the resolve spot remover to hit the bad spots prior to cleaning[$4.00] Like I said the machine did a great job. It has the suction to leave the carpet almost dry. If you have dark carpet and can get by with a cleaning every 5 years or so I would stick with the Stanley steamers but if you need to clean it often you can't go wrong with this machine.

Thanks. I guess it comes down to square footage when doing a cost analysis. My carpet is not dark so I clean it every year primarily due to the kids.
