It's a bye week so humor me.
With the current roster as it is, if a new coach came in and wanted to run a 3-4 where would everyone play and who would be released/moved?

    LDE - Lewis
    NT - Thomas
    RDE - Brayton
    LOLB - C Johnson#
    LILB - Beason *
    RILB - Davis *
    ROLB - Peppers
    LCB - Gamble
    RCB - Marshall
    FS - Godfrey
    SS - Harris

    # - Probably be some rotation here with Brown, who might be a better fit as a 34 OLB

    * - Both of these guys would struggle in this alignment

It's a terrible idea with what we have right now. We maybe could play some sort of hybrid, but a full time 34 would ruin Beason and Davis. I suppose the linemen we have are "good enough", but the absence of a dominant NT would kill us.

Beason and Davis's lack of bulk would hurt?

It's the lack of bulk as well as the height issue. 34 ILBs are typically at least 6-2. Davis and Beason are both barely 6'. When you have to take on offensive guards, you almost need to be built like a smaller TE.

It would probably suck just as bad as what we are doing now.

We've been in 4-3 mode for over a decade now. It would be difficult to suddenly make a switch and be effective.

Ahh OK, I'll look around at some typical 3-4 inner linebackers as comparison. The inside backers is where we would suffer the most seemingly

we'd be talking next year at best. Beason could transition, but IMO Davis couldn't. Maybe outside, if you want explosiveness but are OK with losing run battles. Connor fits inside, Diggs or Johnson could fit inside.

The weakness is at end/tackle. We'd have literally nothing that fits.

so it'd sort of be like running the 4-3 this year?
