If there was such a demand for DTs why did we only get a second for a Pro Bowl DT?

I know why people say we only got a second but shit, if you can't get what a guy's worth, keep him. I wish Jenks was still here.

 

Tommy Kelly signed a huge contract while most of these deals were getting done, which raised the price of the trade for any team involved. Really the reason Jenkins isn't here anymore IMO was they weren't going to give him more money and he was going to turn into real locker room problem. The team got desperate, decided to cut their losses.

 

Not to ruin your day but we got a 3 & 5, a second was the offer we left on the table from the Rams the year before.

EDIT:Looking up old stuff: We had to pay jenkins a million dollar roster bonus, the Jets were looking at Shaun Rogers, these may have contributed to the teams acceptance of a lesser deal.

 

YOu're right. I have tried to block a lot of that out, I guess.

I probably wouldn't have minded so much if we got a second, actually, or whatever we got, as long as he was reasonably replaced.

 

A second Round pick is pretty damn good considering recent trades. That's all that was rumored to be offerred for Peppers.

 

If he is going to make $16 per year then he ought to be good enough for us to have a decent D even with average DTs. If he is not then why is he here?

 

You brought it up, you said he needed to be traded, then you said we should build around him. Also, 16 million. And finally we don't have average DTs, we've been complaining about that for 2 years now.

 

I would still like to trade him but as long as he is here and taking up a quarter of our cap space I can count him as a key part of our team. I still think we could get better production out of our $16 million by spending it on several solid guys instead of one guy who is spetacular twice per year and invisible the rest.

I do not think we have average DTs right now. When Kemo and Lewis are in we do have average DTs. If we had two more guys at or close to average then we could rotate them and get "enough" for the defense to be solid with the other guys we have.

I am not sure the Everette Brown would not do as much as Peppers if he got as many snaps. 2 tackles vs the Falcons does not set the bar real high.

 

And the Eagles game? Oh right, kind of defeats your argument.
