Fox could learn from Cowher, who didn't win a superbowl until he broke down and acquired a real QB.

Gruden called a route that t.o. ran (i think) a comeback route on monday nite.

NFL doesn't run comeback routes do they?

Gruden? seriously? That dude can't make up his mind who is QB would be...don't we already have issues with out QB's now? Cowher has proven to win in the face of losing pro-bowlers. Gruden inherited his team from Dungy and since Tampa's Super Bowl win...he didn't do anything. I am hoping for Cowher....actually..I think there is something already in place for him if he wants it. Hard to believe that he bought a house in NC and turned down offers last year to coach. I think he wants the Carolina job...and will get it

Gruden's gone to the playoffs with Ganon, Johnson, Simms, and Garcia, the guy actually is pretty good when he settles on someone.

He's also proven he'll stick with crap at the games most important position far too long, which sounds kind of familiar.
I'd hate to win a super bowl, shit if Cowher comes in next year like you want and we win a super bowl would it not be built mostly on Fox/Hurney players?

True..if Cowher comes here an win's a super bowl, he win it with the team already in place..for the most part. The key difference is that Cowher has a much more proven track record than Gruden.

And as far as sticking with players way too long..take Stewart out of it and who else..he let Woodson, Greg Lloyd, Porter, etc go....shows that he knows how to coach the guys behind the starters to get them ready and kept a consistantly winning team in Pittsburgh.

Cowher - 149-90-1 (.643) ten playoff appearances in 15 seasons and three losing seasons

Gruden - 95-81 (.540) 5 playoff appearances in 12 seasons and three losing seasons

Cowher did a good job in Pittsburgh. Part of the credit should go to the great defensive coordinators he has had over the years though, especially Dick Lebeau.

I like a 3-4 defense if it is ran the right way. Everyone thinks it is the linebackers that make it but really it is the DL. You need three big guys who can play the run and take up the blockers. The DL in a 3-4 is really more like playing three DTs than a DT and two DEs. The reason it worked here back in 96 was not just Greene and Lathon but to a big degree Greg Kragen.

I am not sure we have anyone on the defense right now who can play DL in a 3-4. Kemo probably could but the rest of our guys seem like bad fits. If Cowher did come here he would probably make some big personnel changes.

Look at it this way, if you feel the team still has a super bowl window but needs the boost of a new guy to get them over the top then Gruden (or even Shanahan) is more of the quick fix guy, if you think they need to tear down and start over Cowher is the guy. If I had to guess Jerry would lean to Cowher regardless, but that's just how I see it.

    Tommy Maddox, Neil O'donnel.

    I didn't disagree with this.

Same amount of super bowl wins.

Kemo would be able to play end in a 3-4 but he wouldn't be mistaken for Aaron Smith, I'd rather they just dump him he's getting older has a big bonus due and is coming off an injury that has robbed players of their ability in the past.

Tommy Maddox and Neil O'Donnel where not players that he "stuck" by and kept them too long. He used what he had. And O'Donnel was not a bad QB for the Steelers. If you look at that Super Bowl again, you will see that those int's were more the recievers fault than the qb's. The reciever ran the wrong route and Brown was playing in a zone defense ....and the ball thrown to a spot..the spot the reciever should have gone to. That really the only knock on O'Donnell. And yeah...Maddox just sucked. But the fact that he got something out of that guy says alot.

They may have had the same amount of Super Bowl wins...but SB appearances? Cowher was there...with tow different teams (different set of players) Once the core of Gruden's team was gone...he wasn't able to accomplish anything.

Its going to be Cowher...and yeah..I see him making adjustment to the roster..but gradually. He won't sacrife wins for the sake of tearing down a team and rebuilding it.

On a seperate note...I am just frustrated that we really didn't do anything in the offseason. We made no major moves....don't get it
