that one's an old school penalty, before Goodell got all hardass.
Same as taking a helmet hit on a QB.

 

No doubt, the throat slash goes back to OJ doesn't it? Or at least the moral objection to it?


edit: Tangent: I don't mind stuff like throat slashing being banned, but it sucks seeing old NFL films and seeing the whole team celebrate after a huge TD etc. It's a harsh reminder of the 'all-business' stuff we have to watch today. One has to wonder if the banning of team celebrations didn't help promote the 'me-first' stuff the NFL is cleaning up now.

<tangential rant>I think it should have been more. There's no place for that crap (and gang signs) in any televised event. I am tired of the "me, me, me" mentality. They get paid tons of money and play in stadiums full of people. That should be enough marketing.

If you're good, then the cameras will be on you and you can make your great plays and do the interviews after the game to drive up your marketing dollars. Kids don't need to see that junk.

And act like you're supposed to get into the end zone, that you've done it before (for him, at another level), and act like it's no big deal because you'll be there time and time again after. </tangential rant>

Yeah but then it became the whole team celebrating after every td. Even meaningless ones.

And I agree it should have been more.
