I can get a Dell Inspiron laptop for $450 but it comes with Vista.

Can I reformat and do a clean install with Windows XP? I really don't want Vista.

I see some laptops coming with the option to upgrade free to Win7.
    Thoughts?

then again, I never thought Vista was bad at all.

Dell is charging about $150 more for XP.

Windows 7- Looks good, but how will programs handle a brand new OS?

Is it going to be like Vista when they had problems?

I've heard nothing but good things about Windows 7. As has been said, it appears to be what Vista should have been.

I agree. It will sell for about $200 with the ultra version going for $329. Skip the Ultra it's not worth the extra money for a couple of unnecessary features. I pre-ordered the Pro version at best buy for $99.

Most programs released for Windows XP also work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run badly or not at all. If a program released for an earlier version of Windows doesn't run correctly, use the Program Interface Wizard to modify the interface options for the program.
