    DT Richard MacDonald?!? haha right!

The point is that we needed a starting quality DT this offseason & because of the Peppers situation we just flat out couldnt afford one! Lewis is nice but we all know he's better coming off the bench.

This will come back to haunt us this season, just like it did last season when Kemo (remember Giants game?) & Lewis were out!

They could've extended jake earlier, but really outside of overpaying haynesworth there wasn't much out there that was really starting quality.

Don't try and play that shit on Thelt.

I'm hoping we don't have to discuss that last sentence this season :)

If we would have had cap room I'm sure we would have taken a run at a DT in free agency. While there's one one Haynesworth, guys like Rocky Bernard, Colin Cole, or ex Panther Jovan Haye would have upgraded our D-line.

we did need one. Baseline for starting DTs went for $5 mil at a time we had to trade for a cheaper longsnapper because we wouldn't have been able to fit our incumbent under the cap.
They cost more from there, but I remember one guy going for $5 mil. Bernard?

In almost any other year we would've cut one of the two incumbents and made the right move. Between the Lewis injury, which would've made it hard to cut him and save $3 mil, to the 2010 cap issue which would've kept us from saving the proration on either player anyway, to the Peppers issue, it did make some sense to keep our starters.

But we definitely needed more. I like what we did this year in the draft; I like what we did last year in the draft. There definitely should've been more coming in than Hayden and Irvin, but not unlike safety before it, we've done better improving our team than I honestly expected through the draft so you can't blame them for not reaching for a guy just to do it. I would've not been any happier with what we did if we'd drafted Jean-Francois in the 5th.

Ideally, Moala would've been there at 59. The only one they really passed over was Gilbert. I liked Gilbert. Athletic, great first step, has the frame to grow into it and can rush the passer. Will he stop the run well? I don't know. Would we have found equitable corners in the 3rd? Moore, who fell two more rounds, and who wasn't as physical or athletic (or tall).
