My take at this point? Once he signs his tender (which he'll likely have to prior to the season; I don't buy that he holds out) he'll be traded to recoup next year's first rounder and perhaps get a player in return.

The Patriots could still be a trade partner here. Having drafted Ron Brace they can part even more easily with, say, Richard Seymour.

If this happens as I expect it to, then he and agent Carl Carey will have lost the staredown.

I think we preparing to keep him for this year. Jake's extension does give us cap room to sign rookies and keep Julius under the cap, and I think that's what we try to do.

With the possibility of no cap next year, we could do it twice.

Maybe people STFU about peppers for 5 minutes....

Brace is really more of a pure NT guy, so I doubt they get rid of Seymour for him

Yeah, I doubt they just get rid of their best defensive lineman.

Boston beat writers have speculated they want to trade Seymour even without this pick.

so if they might do it anyways how does having a guy not suited to his position make it easier to part ways?

You don't know how they're going to use him any more than I do. They already have Vince Wilfork at NT. He's a little bigger and a lot more experienced.

Seymour from the Patriots is just one speculation though, and he's been mentioned as a possibility before. Could be any team that wants Peppers and is willing to part with a first rounder and a player.

Wouldn't surprise me if the trade occurred just after someone lost a guy for the season.

We still need a DT. Vince Wilfork would work. Peppers and next years 3rd round pick for Vince Wilfork.

Someone is going to pay 17 million for an injury replacement on short time with the playbook, plus the draft compensation?
