Of course the Lions or any other team would want to do something to reduce player salaries. But agents cannot totally free lance and act with the team unless it's in support of the union and the players. Your plan doesn't do that.

Show me the rule. You would need this rule to have the agent in violation which would be cause for revoking his license. Otherwise, all you have is tradition and that doesn't mean shit.

Every other agent would immediately file a complaint which would go to the NFLPA Committee on Agent Regulation and Discipline. Educate thyself.

I just read that entire thing, and for what point? I know you didn't read it. And I also know that not EVERY agent will file a complaint and also that even if they did, it is a function of laws, not popularity, which is what this country is founded on. And there is no law stopping what I am proposing. In other words, any agressive agent, much like I would be as an agent, is going to call bullshit on your defense of the status quo.

But here was an interesting paragraph near the beginning:

"[T]he NFL shall impose a fine of $15,000 upon any Club that negotiates
any NFL Player Contract(s) with an agent or representative not certified
by the NFLPA in accordance with the NFLPA agent regulation system if,
at the time of such negotiations, such Club either (a) knows that such
agent or representative has not been so certified or (b) fails to make reasonable inquiry of the NFLPA as to whether such agent or representative
has been so certified. Such fine shall not apply, however, if the negotiation
in question is the first violation of this Article by the Club
during the term of this Agreement.
    "

15 grand? LOL. Fuck your tradition and fuck your certification. And this does not even apply on the first violation. I am talking about millions in the moment, and millions in the future as a result of the goodwill of the owners.

You lose. A clever owner and agent in collusion would take your stupid ass to the cleaners.

So where does collusion with the owner fall under Section 3A: (17) Act at all times in a fiduciary capacity on behalf of players??

It falls under the same category as price collusion falls under other semi-monopolistic industries such as broadband and electrical delivery. Unenforceable and irrelevant.

    *edit*
And I want to stress that it DOES benefit the player. If you graduate college with a computer science degree, and you expect to make 60grand as a fresh graduate, then suddenly someone offers you 150k for the same work, is that somehow NOT in your best interest to accept? I don't think so.

Is it in your best interest to accept if the last guy they picked first to do the job got 300K?

I'm sure it'd benefit the player to become Tony Mandarich level infamous for being an undeserving top pick that doesn't meet expectations of a top pick.
