Since when? I bet there are dozens, if not hundreds of agents who would disagree with you.

If he signs before the draft, that's what he gets paid, regardless of slot.

one thing about it, though, is that if this did happen, fair shot that 2 and 3 do hold out.

Which, they're going to want to be paid a portion more than last year's 2 and 3. Which, to me, is realistic.

I agree, technically the #2 pick could be the highest rated player in the draft in this scenario, and would normally be #1, and as such could bargain for more than what is typically paid to a # 2, but then again it all comes back to how bad does the team want this player? The fact that there is no one wanting to trade up to #1 is telling about teams' desire for certain players. I think this year may see more holdouts than ever.

This all may be true and is certainly possible, however it doesn't change the truth of this statement:

A players value isn't determined by his slot picked, but by his talent and impact potential relative to other players in the draft. Typically the most potentially impactful player is chosen 1st, and is valued in that manner because of his impact potential and talent relative to the board, so it typically works out that way. If there was someone on the board that everyone (or even more than one team) coveted, the first pick would be worth something.....this year it really is not.

Why would they need to? UNless the GM's of 2 and 3 are retarded, they'll know they need to pay slightly more than last year's 2 and 3.

because owner #2 and owner #3 could easily say, "well, #1 got $30 million. Why should I give you $45 million?"

In the very rare event that Detroit pulled off what Tharan would want to do, they could screw the other teams.

Those agents might argue that the position picked is relative to his talent level related to the rest of the board, and the position might be an indicator of where to start with regard to salary....but there is no rule that ties; draft position to contract, talent level to draft pick or any other combination.

They would be throwing a monkey wrench in the TRADITIONAL way of doing things, but nobody gets screwed....teams and players work out contracts....it just makes the agents' jobs more difficult, because they have to try to determine what their player is worth as opposed to just determining what a pick position is worth.
