Gross lobbying for him, Observer says they're not interested, Gantt says they're starting to talk to him.

Thoughts? Showed a lot more valuability down the stretch. If he were better at RG late in the season, I think he'd have shown beyond a doubt that he's a starter and he'd go do that for someone.

He might be an expensive backup, but if we cut Lucas...

it's really hard to say what the value is. Essentially, there's market for starters, then elite starters. Then there's draft picks. I have no idea what vet backups make nowadays.

Without him, we have Bernardeau, who they do like. He's cheap. Schwartz was signed to a three year deal to bring him back to the active roster - you don't see that often. Bridges has been mentioned as a potential cut but I'd have to see it to believe it, despite the issue with the law. Then you have Omiyale as the other backup tackle. If you move Schwartz inside to guard, you have nine, which is what we keep.

It'd be a lot cheaper to bring in a guard at the minimum, if you think Bernardeau is good enough at backup C.

How much they like him is the key.

Can we even be thinking about Hangartner with Peppers' $17mil hanging over our head?

I'd like to keep him, even at a bit of extra expense. We all know sooner or later in the season a lineman will get dinged up. I prefer a guy to come in and spell them, rather than having to shuffle half the line to spots they haven't practiced for a while. Everything tends to slow down then.

But if we do lose him, and we get something more than a 1st for Peppers, I would take a serious look at Duke Robinson. He's a roadgrader guard that can play all spots. We have Vincent one more year so he can learn.

That said, I'd prefer to worry about the defense this draft.

I really don't care much for him at G but who else do we have that can plug in for Kalil?

I haven't seen anything from Bernadeau to lead me to believe he's as good, let alone better, than Hangartner. I think Geoff is quality depth and it would be very wise to keep him, assuming we could do so for backup money. I'm not interested in paying him starter money, especially not with the depth of G/C in this year's draft.
