Could have. I think it could have been why Linehan turned down the Niners.

It will be interesting because Culpepper is due a 2.5 million bonus in March, and most people assumed Detroit would cut him to open more cap space. Now I think they at least keep him as a back-up, and Jon Kitna might as well start getting the U-Haul trucks ready.

I'm surprised about the KC rumors. I just don't think Shanahan is what they need right now.

The only think that really pisses me off about the Capers hire in GB is Aaron Kampman's #. When they move him to linebacker, will he be able to keep #74?

Shanahan might not be the best ideal for them, but they could run a WCO. Plus, he's already coached for two of the four teams in that division, so it feels like you're sticking it to the division. Not as much in reality, but certainly it gives KC and Shanahan a common goal and enemy.

I watched a segment on NFL.com about the Chiefs, and Adam Shefter said that Mike Shanahan will not coach in KC. He was pretty animated about it, too.

I really think they're just waiting for Todd Haley.

Could be. There's definitely a contention between him and Mortensen.

Funny how the NFL works, or specifically how young head coaches think they're going to call plays. Whisenhunt came in expecting to call plays when there was someone he'd chosen to run the offense, that could do as good a job as him; on the flip side, no one cared about Todd Haley last year and he could be in complete control of a franchise that doesn't have a GM (and therefore probably won't have a strong one when they do hire).

Scott Pioli is the Chiefs' GM, and Haley is being mentioned as a candidate in part because Pioli has a background with him.

Herm Edwards likely not in at TB - Joe Baker expected to be hired for DBs coach.

So far my options for all positions are still available - McGinnis, Haslett, McDermott, Board, Krumrie, Millard, Haluchak, Venturi, Gray, Edwards.

I do think it's interesting that Meeks is getting some "why is he gone?" flak from fans and media, and then you look at his numbers. His run D has been very up and down, which is partly scheme and partly a matter of personnel (their ends being light, their DTs wavering in talent over time). I don't think that would be a huge problem here given that I'd expect us to put something into run D (before pass rush), then 3rd down D specialists, if given the choice. It's not the greatest fit, but other than disguising c3 shells instead of giving c3 shells with presnap disguises, there's not a lot of difference. It could even fit with the NT/UT scheme that was discussed.

But you'd figure that a Meeks/Edwards pairing would be a hotter ticket leaguewide, and yet I think they're partially suffering from how the Tampa 2 has declined in the eyes of the league. I've actually heard fans of other teams say zone itself is a bad thing, which was kinda funny. But you could get two guys of likeminded scheme, adapt them to what you do, and go forward.
