If they end up losing Garrett to St. Louis (which he'll fail at, I'd be willing to guess long term), is there really a reason to have Phillips around? Part of the reasoning behind firing Schottenheimer was that, since half of the staff including the coordinators were already gone, and they disagreed on those hires, that there was no reason for him to stay.

Jones will have a strong opinion on who the DC is. Phillips will very predictably want the recently fired Ted Cottrell, and they'll never agree on who the OC is. Phillips will want someone boring and Jones will be heartbroken his white knight is gone.

I didn't notice Bucs' LB coach Casey Bradley going to Seattle to be the DC. Interesting, and interesting that the Tampa 2 might continue to somehow spread.

It also means that John Marshall is likely out of a job.

    (PFT):
Herm Edwards' staff is looking elsewhere, expecting not to stay.
Gunther Cunningham likely to be the DC under Schwartz in Detroit, special teams coach Mike Priefer jumped to Denver, DBs coach David Gibbs now a Texan.

Says that Garrett didn't leave for the Rams because his already ridiculously priced contract meant he wanted more than they'd offer.

Dom Capers is expected to leave the Pats after interviews with both Green Bay and now NY.

Mike McCoy will be OC with Denver, but won't have playcalling duties. Looks like Jeremy Bates may stay afterall, and former OC Rick Dennison is now line coach.

That's what I figured, but it's still funny. Does anyone know what he's actually done during his coaching career? It seems like he's always filling a position where someone above him is doing his job.

some said Henning still coached the QBs and didn't want a QB coach.
No idea what his role's been since, realistically.

The idea he's not calling plays with a coach like McDaniel that wants control (why?) isn't necessarily an indictment of McCoy's skill directly, other good coaches have been coordinators but not playcallers because they had offensive head coaches over them. I think the idea is moderately foolish, that you can control an entire football team and day to day operations and be the one that controls the offense as well and give both the needed attention.

But no, I've never seen the big deal with McCoy.

Both ESPN and Darin Gantt have reported that Mike McCoy will not call plays in Denver.

Although McCoy will have the official title of "offensive coordinator", head coach Josh McDaniels has retained the offensive playcalling duties himself

McCoy's job description will apparently be the same as it was with the Panthers.
