thinking of pulling out the old weathered pressure-treated wood deck and building a concrete structure that would be compatible w/ an add-on room in the future. concrete deck would be "swung" (about 4-6 inches thick) on piers.

any advise or experience with this?

Make sure you let the concrete harden up good before you walk on it

Little bit... I busted up a 10'x12' and had a 19'x21' put in. I can find the guys name if you like. It's stamped & stained concrete and it's awesome.

Here's a few pics of the project...

If you're wanting the option to build a room on it someday, I would think you'd need to go at least 6" thick, and more wouldn't surprise me. That's something you definitely want to check code on, even if you don't pull a permit.

thanks... and yes... I removed the old and like I tell my friends, with Manuel.... manual labor!

had a friend go the dump with me and help me unload the trailer, it was hot that day and we were hung over as hell

after it dried for a week, he pressured washed it, stained it the two different colors, pressure washed it, stained it with black, pressure washed it, and then sealed it

also, and I'm sure it goes without saying, but you want to plan on laying concrete when it's hot like that and hopefully miss the rain until you get it done

    sort of

    y2b,
do you have any trouble with water standing on the pad after a rain? maybe you put a slight grade on it?

What I want to do is a bit different. it would be a standard block / brick foundation with inner piers with a concrete floor on top of thick metal sheets and a crawl space underneath.
