We don't always have holes, but there are more than there used to be. And more often than not we're able to get push, I have been yearning for that for years ;-)

really, you can argue all day about who's what and there's no denying that we have ungodly talent at RB, but it's probably also the most talented line we've ever had. Least sacks given up under Fox (though I checked it just under Delhomme's, but I doubt we gave up fewer last year), obviously best in power situations, and you could make a case for each starter being the best at what they do for what we've had over our franchise history.

The line's been more inconsistent than the backs, overall, though.

They get a lot of big runs, but seem to have problems when they need to run out the clock.

get far too conservative with the playcalling. We've done very well in past games continuing to do what we do well - including passing - with a score or more lead, so in games where we get timid I don't really understand.

And if I'm going to criticize that I'll also have to ask where the screen game is? Granted I don't want to be the team that gives thirty carries to backs and then dumps off to backs ten more times, and you don't screen much if you're more typically a run team, but I can't remember us running it hardly at all - and that was a goal of this offense, screen packages.

Because we get no in-line push from our run blockers. I agree with strat that there have been more and better holes this season, but it's largely a result of pulling and wall blocking. Those designed runs are tougher to pull off when the defense brings up an extra defender, since they can usually fill that space. And when we need to just line up and push defenders back, we struggle.

I'm happy that the run blocking is better than last season, but it still isn't great. Most of the credit for this offensive explosion goes to DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, whether they're breaking tackles or bouncing runs to avoid defenders.

See, now you're just outright lying. You know good and well its all because Delhomme is the best QB in the league. MVP candidate in my well thought of opinion/fact.

Oh, I forgot you have to have a fucking stat for everything in this forum.

How about this stat, Carolina is ranked 3rd in the NFL in rushing offense, 4/10 of a yard out of 2nd. You don't do that with smoke and mirrors, you do it with great run blocking, no matter what that idiot Collin says.

Jake's awesome arm strength and passing game is what opened up the running game... that's why Edgerin James sucks without Payton Manning

It's a good line... nowhere near the best in the NFL. I give DW and Stewart more credit for the improvement than the line to be honest. A lot of yards were gained on cutbacks where the hole was closed but the RB's kept their heads up and bounced it downfield for 8+ yards when they reversed field or found a different hole.
