...if your were the owner of the Lions what would be your plan for turning them around next year?

Keep Calvin Johnson and Kevin Smith. Then, you go find 20 other starters, either in free agency or the draft.

you could make a case for Sims, Cherilus, and I guess you could keep Backus at LT until other holes are fixed. Backus really isn't essential, though.

    otherwise, they're pretty SOL.

Really, though they got burned by the bigtime GM approach, it was who they took, not how they did it. Go get a real GM, build a real scouting department, and then go hire a good young coach and build the fuck out of things with draft picks.

The Williams (who has sucked - great trade, Jones) and Rogers trades do give them an extra 1, 2 extra 3s, and extra 6, which helps. Two not-shitty #1s would go a long way. They really should trade down from 1 and get at least another 2.

I do not endorse the Pioli/Cassel duality. Too tidy a package really.

Holmgren as the GM and give Marinelli another year...I'd like to see how he responds to this year because I think he is a good coach. He just hasn't had much to work with.

said it once I'll say it again, Marinelli was big on all those crappy former Bucs, it's not like everything he has to work with was given to him by Millien.
