Not that I want to get rid of Peppers but I was wondering if we could get two quality + D linemen for his contract.

    After looking, meh

I would tag Pep, that way if we lose him we get two first round picks.

Either work out a long term deal with Gross or part ways with him. I always thought we could replace him easily by sliding Wharton back to tackle but Wharton is playing so well at guard I would kinda hate to do it now.

There is not much on that list to get excited about. Haynesworth would be awesome lined up next to Peppers but that would be too expensive.

I hope we can sign him and don't tag him. I'm thinking the tag will be harder to deal with than signing him. Tag for a DE is HUGE.

look at how much some non-starters got this year

I doubt the cap hit would be any higher than what it was this year. Wasn't it like 14 million or something? If he sucks next year then we are only on the hook for one year under the tag.

the tag offers protection against the player for that. It could be an average of the top 5 salaries, or 120% of the previous year's salary for the player, so you don't get screwed by the tag if you happen to be the top paid player (which Julius had to have been).

So he would cost around 17 million for one year.

If it comes to that, then I can deal with that. Put me in the camp that says I'd rather keep him than chance it, at nearly any cost. Whatever it is, it won't be reasonable, but we don't really get a big discount for a premier player. It will be a long time before we get a premier player again, honestly.
