Looking at this, we're fucked unless we win the division. Division champ, no matter their record gets the home game

I just created a not-implausible scenario where the NO game means either the No. 2 seed or stay home. What a gut-wrencher that would be! Here's how it could happen:

    Week 14:
TB @ CAR - Rousing MNF win!

    Week 15:
NO @ CHI - Saints offense clicking on all cylinders.
TB @ ATL - Falcons hand Bucs second straight close road loss.
DEN @ CAR - Trap game vs. hot/cold team following big MNF win.
CLE @ PHI - Eagles continue their resurgence.

    Week 16:
    ATL @ MIN - Ryan outplays Jackson/Frerotte.
CAR @ NYG - The oddsmakers are right.
SD @ TB - Angry Bucs defense overwhelms Rivers & Co.

    Week 17:
OAK @ TB - As expected, Bucs close out with a win.
    STL @ ATL - Ditto.
CAR @ NO - Win = 2 Seed. Loss or Tie = Stay home.

We really need Atlanta to win this week.

Then, if we can beat Denver and NO we'll get #2 seed even if we lose in NY.

I kind of like that scenario, puts us home until a NY rematch for the NFCCG, and having played them once I'd like our chances going back.

If Tampa wins and we slip up just once, we're like #5 seed.

After plugging in my predictions I came up with following seeds:

    1. NY
    2. Carolina
    3. Arizona
    4. Chicago
    5. Tampa
    6. Philly

That would kinda suck though. Philly would likely beat Arizona again and then play New York. We would play the winner of Tampa and Chicago, which is likely to be Tampa. After the way we embarrassed them they will be really fired up to play us again.

The wild card teams look to be tougher than the second 2 division champs this year. Arizona and either the Vikings or Bears will be division champs and none of those three are likely to get past the first round.

I agree with this. Tampa has two easy games with San Diego and Oakland to finish out the year. If they beat Atlanta then we probably have to win out to win the division.

Well the Panthers don't have a good history vs New Orleans on season ending games.

according to all this, if we lose out we're a 5 seed if everyone else wins.

If we lose one and tie one, we're still a 2. But that was with the MN loss, looking at whether the division could catch up with us.
