Let Gross walk. I am torn about Peppers, but leaning toward signing him. Could we get help from the government and their bailout money?

I was excited to see that he was extended until I saw the price. Good god damn, that's a lot of money. Wow. I don't quite know how to feel about it at this point. He's playing great and I know the market forced these huge salaries, but we didn't have a lot of cap to begin with and that ate a ton. I know his '09 base will probably be low, but a contract that big will get unwieldy before long. Hrm. Lucas really could be a cap casualty given that his base escalates to 5.6 million next season. Plus, wasn't the economy supposed to bring prices down a bit? I guess not.

Based on how Hurney has been operating, it's more likely he tries to extend Lucas rolling that salary into a signing bonus. He can cut half that salary off the '09 cap real easy.

I can see the economy effecting baseball teams a good amount and NBA a little due to teams being even more hesitant to go into luxury tax territory, but the NFL's hardcap mitigates the effects of a down economy (not to mention it's the 800lb gorilla of sports)

Cause I am not sure about it. I did not want to sign him coming into this year but he has played well enough to make me wonder. For the kind of money he is going to get we should be getting a player who is dominant not just good.

The other option is a basic restructure. We could put off the decision on him for a year. Roll 5 million into signing bonus and pay him the league minimum for '09. That could happen without extending his current deal beyond '10. Hopefully, he'd go for it without the moose type roster bonus added.

Until recently, I have been moe than unimpressed with Gamble. I just hope he continues to play the way he has this year. Lucas is aging, but still has game. Marshall is solid, but he gets caught thinking rather than reacting sometimes...either way, one of the three is probably gone soon and Gamble is now not one of them.

    Definitely more likely, yes.

Restructure really isn't an option. Lucas only has 09 left on the books, so you would have to add years. Restructuring works on the idea that you have X years left, so you take most of the upcoming year's salary and turn it into bonus. It spreads at (price)/X at each year, and that's useless if X = 1.

It's hard to say on the price. I can't get past it being a fuckton of money. I wanted him to stay, and that's market - you either go get a guy with a high pick and hope he's this good or you pay this much. Of course, if you're shocked now, Julius will get 20% more.

Also, an OL works together. Corners work alone. It's not a direct equation, but if we had to pay one this money, it's Gamble.
