We have an old assed stove in the house. It's a drop in. We're gonna buy a new one this weekend, but I didn't realize how expensive the drop ins are. Is it an enormous pain in the ass to switch to a conventional?

You will need to reconfigure the cabinets. So, most likely, yes.

Dropin is built into the wall?

FWIW, I'm on the same range since 1979, a Kenmore.

But there's also a hole for a slide in model right? I don't get it, I guess I need to look at pictures.

I was thinking the stove was just a cooktop. Just the burners. An oven, to me, would be the thing you bake in. Maybe QCH can post a picture. Or Plu if she has a question about her specific situation.

A free standing range has a cooktop and an oven in one single unit.

We always called a stove with burners and an oven, a range, or just plain stove. I've not had a problem with my Kenmore range, so haven't had to research all the sophisticated variations.

The one on the left is easy, slide out, unplug, plug the new one in, slide in.

The old one, as long as the dimensions are the same, it should be just as easy.
