Yeah, letting Marshall replace Gamble, and Wharton replace Gross, etc is fine, but then who replaces Marshall and Wharton? It's nice having a nickel corner that could start for a lot of teams. Pay them all if we can and keep drafting depth.

A million or two in the cap is the difference between your depth being a vet and your depth being a 3rd round pick.

We gave up our first next year for the wrong guy. :sadley:

I would risk that if I were not sure Peppers was worth breaking the bank for. Right now I am not sold on giving him a contract worth $100 million, which what it will likely be close to.

this I'm OK with. Other than specialists, we don't have a ton of veteran depth that doesn't play ST for us, and I'd still say we're pretty deep. Without a lot of picks next year I'd be willing to say cheap veteran depth would still be nice, though.

I'd rather keep Gamble with eyes towards promoting Marshall and letting Lucas walk if someone has to walk. Marshall probably won't command near the deal Lucas would. Plus Lucas figures to start slowing down, he'd have the age thing against him in a deal with any length to it.

I don't really care to pay Gross, as I have said many times, top LT money, and am on board with Wharton replacing him.

I don't know about Pep, depends on how expensive he's gonna be. He's earning his money this year though.

Seeing as how Marshall's agent has said he will be seeking a huge (highest paid CB in the league) deal, I don't know how you can say lucas will command a bigger deal.

I can say anything I want. Don't have to be right.

So can his agent. Doesn't mean he will get it.

That said, if they are asking for the same deal, I'd give the money to Marshall because of the age thing.

Aside from Chris Harris, a lot of the hits and tackles that draw a gasp from the crowd are Gamble. I have been quite impressed with his play this year as opposed to past years. And he gets the guy down, not just big hit and bounce off. I love Marshall, but he does seem to get a personal foul more often then I'd like and they're not all "picky ref" calls either.

Could you tell me how Lucas will command a bigger deal if, as you said, he will start slowing down soon?

    Obviously, but they won't be.

Yeah, Gamble has definitely taken a step forward. While the hits get attention, I've been impressed by how little I've noticed him this year. When you're not making mistakes or giving up a lot of completions, then you're doing a good job at corner.

    presidence99:
"Win now" teams might spend more for the veteran. It just depends on who has the most money to burn coupled with the most need for a corner.
