...My AC (1st floor) was not cooling. I called a reputable company. I requested a service visit. They asked me if I wanted them to send a tech. out that night? of course at an additional charge. I said no, and would wait til tomorrow. Well tomorrow came and went, then the next day, I get a call from "the company" to say that the rep was on his way to my house. When I get home, I see this guy, nicely dressed, not you standard service guy clothes, accessing my 2 units, then puts freon in, says I need to replace both units. Service charge for today is $96.
2 days later, my buddy who does refrigeration work for McDonalds Corp. stops by and fixes a relay switcth for a spaghetti supper and a 12 pack.
Now the first company wants me to pay the $96 bucks!
I'd like TBR folks to tell me how you'd handle this matter.

I know paying the $ is easy but I've got an attitude now.:reddevil:

Did this company tell you when you called them, that this was not a free quote, but would cost you - even if you didn't go ahead with it? I guess that's the key. If they didn't, I say you've got a good chance of fighting this.

Usually, companies will advise when there's a callout fee - and I think that's reasonable. It's always a gamble though - a) if they're going to give you an honest quote and b) not fluff out the job with unnecessary shit. It would appear that both a and b has occurred - but I'd save telling them that depending on what the answer to my question is .

...hey Honey, thanks for your reply. Actually I could give a shit about the $96, but what chaps my ass is they thought they could play "the game".
I've been a GC for 30 years. I know a BS "quote" when I see it. I'll let my lawyer handle it. And pay 30 times over or more than the scam price out of of pure spite. Fishman...should be light 96 now gonna hook him for 9600!

Yea, I know what you mean - it really chaps my arse too when contractors try one on. I'm like you in that respect - if it's fundamentally dishonest, I'll fight it - tooth and damn nail.

Did they tell you it was a charged quote though? If they did - I'd be tempted to give a detailed account of the muck around you've had trying to get the contractor to turn up on time, then what a load of bollocks his `expert advice' was. You could have fun with this - I know I would :shifty:.

    :trampoline:Marlin..you do any roofing?

    I'm totally jacking your thread...

Pay the 96 and chalk it up to lesson learned. You'll pay sooo much more in heartache and attorney fees.

Hey PlutoBabe, call Tony Williford, in Charleston SC. Williford Construction.
He's probably the largest roofing Contractor in SC. He'll hook you up with the best deal just to piss off all of the locals. If you can't get up with him, PM me, and I'll take care of that.
