    $7 - $9 sq. yd installed

less than half if you do it yourself and it's about the easiest thing there is to do

Carpet 1300 sq feet including stairs-medium grade:
    $3 - $5 sq yd or $1,300 - $2,200

    Painting a high foyer:
I had mine painted for $800, but he bitched about it after the fact, other quotes were between $1,500 & $2,400

Installing a light in a high foyer:
I still that yet to do, but I think it would be $200-$300

Digging out old 15 feet shrubs and that God forbidden safari grass (about 10)?
damn... no idea, but I would spray it with round up and wait a month and pull it myself

Replacing an 8 foot bathroom cabinet including countertops and sinks?
depending on how work you do yourself, $500 - $2,000... too many variables, you going with the Lowes/Home Depot put it together yourself and ordering a custom size formica?

Are you sure about that? Even manufatured hardwood runs over $3/ sq ft before installation. 5/8 oak hardwoods will be more like $4+/ sq ft. And it only goes up from there.

It can be easy in the perfect situation and it can be a bitch depending on where and what they are being laid on top of. On the first floor of a crawl space or secondary level thay are easier because you can nail them but using glue on slab is a nightmare. Also you may end up having to cut out some of the sub flooring to fit the hardwoods under you appliances which is a pain in the ass.

Te best way to go is find someone that won't force you to buy the flooring from them and shop around. You can find some good deals if you look.

    ...$7-$9 is a fair estimate there 49er.
When it comes to "floating" floors, you know, the prefab 1/2 nch maybe stuff that is laid, yep, $5-$7 per ft..
That price does not include transition slips, or shoe molding.
One Co. that I use, will actually give a lifetime warranty on the the Pergo brand. Go figure.
Lets see, $ is tied up in financing a project, true hardwoods cost basically the same price as the pre fab gig but the installation and finishing of the 3/4 real wood takes atleast a week of your building schedule.
One months % on a builders loan can rock you! Try having 5 homes sitting there at 20K/month each.
If prefab can do the job, and keep me from paying another 5K in interest, then I'll go that way.
I want 3/4 in my own house. JMO

Ok so if anyone has a mind to....

Describe the kinds of wood floors to me and the disadvantages/advantages of each. I'm almost sure I'm not interested in the stuff that has a picture on it (not real wood), I think that's laminate?? Right?

I'm ok with going with the plywood thing with real wood on top of it if it's the click kind because I think I can do that. I think.... er.. maybe.

I'm struggling with just saying screw it and have someone do it, but I'm not all about having 1 inch brazillian cherry or something really expensive that I have to baby. Just nice, clean, durable flooring that looks great and wears well. But I'm almost sure I want real wood, unless someone can give me reasons why I shouldn't.

    Thanks!

Right and I was questioning Y2B quoting it at $7 per sq/yard installed. No way that is right.
