How will the role of Carolina's tight ends change this season?

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Must be people really miss Wesley Walls.
It seems every year around this time the question seems to come up from an anxious reporter: When are Panthers going to have a tight end as productive as Walls, who once led the team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns in the same season?
Well, it’s not going to happen anytime soon in Carolina – at least not this year and probably never under this coaching regime.
“If you couldn’t tell from the acquisitions we’ve made, we’re going to run the ball a little more this year,” said starting tight end Jeff King, alluding to the Panthers getting bigger up front in preparation for a heavy dose of power football.
“So whoever is going to play tight end is going to have to block their tail off because we are going to be physical in the run game. Of course we have to pass and we want to make plays in the passing game as well. That’s the thing with the tight end – he has to be versatile, a guy who can block and be a threat in the passing game.”"
Or three guys, in this case.
The Panthers like what King gave them last year and they’re also very high on second-year pro Dante Rosario, who came on strong at the end of last season.
In fact, when free agent Alge Crumpler came available this off-season, the Panthers didn’t attempt to sign him even though many thought he'd be a perfect fit in this offense. You can say what you want about Crumpler’s knee problems, but the reality is the Panthers didn’t feel like they needed him.
There’s a good chance you’ll see both King and Rosario on the field at the same time this year.
They're using a number of two tight end sets with King at the line and Rosario as the H-back, meaning he’ll line up in a variety of positions including the backfield, slot, out wide and on the end of the line.
“I think they are trying to mix it up,” Rosario said. “With the tight ends we have right now, we can do a lot of different things so we don’t necessarily need to substitute all of the time. I think everyone in our tight end group is a good receiver, so that benefits us an offense because we can keep two tight ends on the field. We can still pass out of those sets and I think we’re all pretty good blockers, too.”

Magnus, please drop it, Dante was hurt the in the days following!
