I would be asking someone how much water they think you've used. Are you watering the yard or something?

most meters today have built in leak detectors, usually small triangle shaped devices, somewhere on your meter face. you make sure everything is off in the house and go watch for it to be spinning. they measure small amounts of water flow for those constant toilet leaks and other small leaks that are hard to detect by watching only the 10 gallon hand on the meter. alot of municipalities have gone to other types of meters for easy reading/billing, they may be totally different today. it would be worth your while to pull off the lid on your meter box just to see. if you've been using lots of irrigation water, you are probably paying sewer fees on that same water, even though it never see's the city sewer system. sewer rates are usually higher than the water rates too. i know it sucks but its free money for the city and they'll take all you want to give.

if irrigation is your big draw, maybe Charlotte allows its citizens to purchase irrigation taps/meters. i would'nt know. it would cost some bucks up front but save you in the long run, as you would not pay sewer rates on that water.

Mine was 230....I had them check for leaks. They said none were detected. Heck, I never watered my lawn. I don't know what the problem is, but it is driving me crazy. I'm thinking of buying a cistern.

What I'm wondering is, do people with pools get a special bulk rate, if they run it by the water people first, of course?

only if you purchase the water from an outside contractor. you contact a water hauler to bring the bulk load to your house, he fills his tanker at the city site and charges you the going rate. i know that Aqua Duck has been hauling down in Mecklenburg Co. and we have some other, local guys up this way. I think its around $225-250 for 5000 gals. otherwise, if you fill from your house tap, you'll pay sewer rates on that as well, unless you have a separate pool/irrigation meter.

Mine is $7 but I live alone in an apt and take ridiculous steps towards conserving my favorite beverage.

Less than $25.00 with 3 people. When you're reasonably sure that no water is running (no toilets, laundry, faucets, etc.),go look at the meter. If it's moving even a little bit, you're leaking.

dude if you have a water leak, you'd know it. there'd be a big wet spot in your yard. seriously.

or just cut all the water off and stare at the meter for a couple of minutes.
