I know that. I prefer the blades...that's all.

What's your handicap, because odds are you aren't good enough to play them so they are just hurting your game.

I think right now only 4 of the top 20 players in the world are playing a true set of blades. That should tell you right there what you should be playing.

You should have considered a mixed set with blades in the short irons and forged cavity 7-3.

I got some clubs from Kmart for $5 each back a few years. They have served me well.

    Solarte,

What is your handicap? Why do you want blades? Do you really shape shots and work the ball?

I bought a set of Cleveland TA3 forged irons a couple of years ago. I hacked around with them for a while and two months ago put my old DCI's in the back and my game immediately got better. I got sucked in to playing the smaller forged irons because Holy Christ in a manger they feel like butter when you hit them right. But I suck, so I went back.

It's a matter of preference really. Yeah, my game isn't in the condition I want it to be in, but my experience with cavity backs was bad--I just didn't get the kind of feedback from them that I prefer.

I can shape shots when needed, more of a fade player than a draw player.

I haven't carried a USGA handicap in some time now, simply because I haven't played as often as I would like, and honestly need, to establish one. If I had to guess, I would say right now I carry anywhere from 10-15, depending on how much I am playing. If I played as often as you do, 49er, I would be single digits without question. I carried a 2 in college while on scholarship.

I understand what you are saying about a prorgressive set, though, and I can see where it might benefit me, but I just prefer the blade iron over a cavity back.

It's a myth that you can't work a ball with a forged cavity. If you couldn't nobody on tour would play them. A forged cavity gives just as much feedback as any blade. It is true that cast clubs have hot spots and give less feedback but any forged club, muscleback or cavity will give the same feedback and feel.

I have a set of blades that are georgous but I don't ever put them in the bag because my forged cavities are just too good to take out.

I can't remember if it is Golf Mag or Golf digest this month that tested the difference in sweetspot hits and miss hits of blades vs cavities and the bottom line is you should be playing cavities. Check it out.

Not arguing with you on this, so don't take it as such. I just prefer the feel of the blade. I did hit some of the Titleist AP1 & AP2 irons, and I did like the feel of those irons, but I noticed that one thing. Either I was absolutely hitting every shot on the money, or I wasn't getting the appropriate response. I had been playing Wilson Staff's for about 18 years, so I am just used to that kind of feeling.
