thats my son, along with my father-in-law, who helped me with this project as well as a pic of the new 8' privacy fence. we have since tilled and planted palms and grasses at the area to the left and along the front of the pool.

I see lots of ICB in that cabana's future.

werd. we're doing a memorial day cookout on sunday for both sides of the family. but me and the wife enjoy our quite time out there too. you know, i am feeling a bit parched these days.

we have it loaded up with 5 white rocking chairs along the back and a brand new patio dining table.....seating for six around that thing alone.

i poured a section of sidewalk, from the back deck stairs to the pool, this morning (a little over a yard). my concrete arrived before 9 and i broomed it around 11:30. now i gotta find something else to do, seeing as how i took a whole day off from work.

    Fence around Cabana

    Mr. Idiot,
I have followed your progress over the past year in redoing the house, it looks great and I admire your tenacity. Your work looks great, and your home seems to be a good place for your family to relax.

Dumb question: The railing around the sides and rear of the cabana: How did you avoid a child proof line of pickets here? Did you not need a permit?
I am building a new deck this summer and would like to avoid the ugly pickets too, I don't want anything to impede my 2 yr old's free fall. How else is he going to learn?

Again, great job on the house, you seem to have missed your calling.

i did not need a permit as the structure is not attached to the house. i had origionally planned on some type of balusters or even lattice on the cabana but my wife quickly nixed that idea.

thanks for the kind words and post some pics.

Looks good. I was thinking of having a cabana put in or maybe a small pool house. Something with a bar. I bet the palms look great. I just put a windmill palm on a hill overlooking the pool and I can't wait until it matures.

How big is that pool, about 18X36? Probably about 9" deep by the looks...I would recommend buy an automatic cleaner for that. It will save you hours a week.

yes, it is 18x36 with an 8' D diving area. i do remember your earlier advice about the automatic vac. i just need to pull the trigger on that one. i also remember you asking about the Zeobrite sand we are using for filtration. it works very well and we only needed 1/2 of what we would normally use with regular filter sand.

go ahead and get that project under way. its only gonna get hotter. i want to see some pics.

    thanks for your input.

I admire all you guys who can do this kind of thing. If it weren't for not being able to use a measuring tape and being afraid of saws, I would SO learn how to build stuff.

I envy you. I can do things that you can 'eyeball', or anything that measures in quarters, but I can't do one thing that requires being exact.
